From Our CEO

MARINEKE VANDERVORT

Happy New Year to all! 2023 was a busy year. Thank you for being a champion of a Club kid, whether you are a donor, parent, or member! We have come so far since the beginning of 2020. It brings me an incredible amount of joy to hear the halls full of our members laughing and chatting on the way to one of our Clubs, a music lesson, swim practice or a game in our gyms. You can see and feel the positive energy exuding from our buildings, music rooms, Clubhouses, gyms, pools, gardens, and classrooms. Read More

Our Clubs

T'was the Season: Holiday Candids

Griset Clubhouse in Encinitas

Local volunteers and BGC staff gather to host our annual Griset Holiday Drive-Thru with Santa.

Over 40 kids received teddy bears and gift bags donated by Cruise 4 Kids and local community members.

Griset teens celebrated with a party featuring fun games and cookie decorating.

La Colonia Clubhouse in Solana Beach

Our La Colonia Holiday Party featured face painting, balloon animals, photos with Santa, holiday crafts, and a three-course buffet for kids and their families.

Polster Clubhouse in Carmel Valley

Clubhouse members made gingerbread houses during our annual fundraiser and celebration.

Santa came to visit our Carmel Valley Montessori School children and their families, taking a photo op with our teachers.

New Windows for Griset

Thanks to the Werbelow Family, our much needed renovation of the Griset facility kicked off over winter break with new windows in the main Clubhouse, CHL, and Gymnasium over the winter break.

Season's Greetings with the SeaWeeders

Members from SeaWeeders Garden Club of Solana Beach brought grape vines, pine cones, and tree branches from their backyards, along with beautiful holiday ribbon and berries to make homemade Christmas wreaths with members of our La Colonia Clubhouse.

Parent's night Out at Del Mar

For members ages 5 - 12

Need a night out? Bring your kids to our Del Mar Clubhouse on Friday, January 26th from 6 - 10pm for some much needed time away while supporting the Club's fundraising efforts. Register Now

Our BGC Family

Celebrating With Our Staff

BGC San Dieguito staff and their families gathered together December 8th for our annual Staff Holiday Party. This special tradition gives staff the opportunity to bond with colleagues from across our 7 locations, not to mention the food, the fun (like a very competitive ugly sweater contest), and a notable staff raffle sponsored by our Board of Directors!

Congratulations to Our 2023 Staff of the Year

As chosen by their peers

PROGRAM STAFF

Tanner Castellanos

La Colonia Clubhouse

Having grown up in the La Colonia Clubhouse and having a mother and father both employed by BGC San Dieguito, Tanner has embraced his role as an After-School Program Lead with open arms. As a freshman at Mira Costa College, Tanner's colleagues praise him for his maturity and patience when working with kids as well as parents and other staff members. Tanner's goal is to be a pediatrician.

SPECIALTY PROGRAM STAFF Patty Mariscal

Aquatics

As a 12-year veteran of BGC San Dieguito, Patty's role as Aquatics Coordinator is one of utmost importance. Her positivity and can do attitude in managing our youth swim program as well as all lifeguards and aquatics staff is what earned her this award. From staying on top of staff certifications to pool maintenance to being a swim instructor herself, Patty's impact in our pools can be seen on a daily basis.

LEADERSHIP STAFF

Darby Schnoebelen

Youth Arts Academy

In just over a year, Darby's ability to revamp Youth Arts Academy's educational content while increasing communication and performance opportunities can be seen in the program's student enrollment and retention. As noted by her colleagues, her ability to fearlessly take on any task without hesitation or ego is what makes her a great teammate.

Volunteer Spotlight: Pallavi Goel

Pallavi Goel was presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) on Thursday January 4, 2024 at the Harper Clubhouse during our Break Week camp.

From left to right: BGC San Dieguito Volunteer Coordinator Pam Curtis, Harper Teen Center Supervisor Bosque Leanio, Pallavi Goel, BGC San Dieguito CEO Marineke Vandervort

The PVSA is earned by people who meet a minimum number of volunteer hours over a one year period. Pallavi completed 100 hours this past summer in our Leaders In Training Program and submitted to earn the award. BGC San Dieguito is a registered participant in this program, and we were able to present Pallavi with a Gold Medallion and certificate signed by President Biden.
