Greetings!
On September 20, and continuing through the Week of Climate Action, young people worldwide showed us their passion, their fears, their concerns, and their capacity to organize on a massive scale. Many of you participated in their actions to show that Elders care. We must continue to step up, add our voice, and show our support as we advocate for immediate action on the climate emergency!

To all of you who participated in an event near you,
THANK YOU!
To those who participated with actions from home throughout the Week of Climate Action,
THANK YOU!
This is not a one-time call to action, we must take bold and consistent action to avoid catastrophic changes. As elders we are in a unique position to influence change. And as the largest voting bloc in the US, when we mobilize, use our power, mobilize our peers, and unify our voice we can influence climate action policy.
We are running out of time for a livable planet. I implore you to find the way you can contribute to the climate action movement. There are so many ways to get involved, you don't even need to leave your home to take action!
Our grandchildren are asking you “What did you do when you first knew?” I hope you will be able to answer, "
I did all I could to ensure a safe and health planet for you and your children's children".

THANK YOU to Everyone Who Participated in the Climate Strike and Week of Climate Action!
On September 20, over 4 million people gathered around the globe to demand immediate action on the climate crisis. Elders Climate Action is proud to have been a partner in the September 20 Global Climate Strike & Week of Climate Action and to see all the grandparents and parents who joined in to support students and young people and amplify the urgent message.
Our unified message is working! Climate change is being discussed daily in the media, in neighborhoods and communities, and we're beginning to hear more support from elected officials. ECA gained new members both nationally and through our chapters and we've received a lot of inquiries about starting new chapters. Intergenerational action on climate change is critical. If we come together, young and old, we
will
build the political will!

A special note from a family member of a long time ECA leader
I am not striking nor reporting on the strike, because I am out here on the tundra, on the frontlines of a major urgent climate-change dilemma. I'm in Newtok, Alaska, which is relocating because of accelerated erosion related to climate change. I'm writing for Sierra. A bunch of people are living in the school right now, because their houses had to be demolished. People should be moving over to the new village site while I'm here. I am here with many pounds of little beans and rice meals and sleeping on the floor of a storage room. But the people here are really lovely, and I feel honored to be able to hear and write their story

Faces of Climate Action Town Hall Meetings
across Arizona hosted by the Arizona Chapter
The Arizona Chapter received an EDF Summer of Action 2019 grant to host five “Face of Climate Action Town Hall meeting across Arizona in Flagstaff, Tucson and three areas of the Phoenix area. The chapter brought together local groups and individuals from the community to produce five Town Hall meetings in Arizona. For each town hall, intergenerational, multicultural, interfaith, as well as climate action and social justice groups shared in the planning, promotion, and delivery of the climate town hall meetings. Elected officials were invited to attend each town hall and to listen to and engage with their constituents. Speakers included the diverse voices of youth leaders, community leaders, climate experts, elected officials, and Arizona residents.
The AZ Climate Town Hall project helped us built relationships with other local organizations, brought together many voices, and created a forum for ongoing collaboration to amplify our collective power through our combined efforts across Arizona. Collaborative groups included Citizen Climate Lobby, Sierra Club, Zero Hour, Sunshine Movement, AZ Climate Strike, CHIPSA, Interfaith Power and Light, Indivisible Arizona, Moms Clean Air Force, Defend our Future, NetGen, Mi Famila Vota, Climate Reality Baja AZ Chapter, Northern Arizona Climate Change Alliance, University of Arizona – Environment and Social Justice. All of the Town Halls were well attended and very successful in building bridges between groups and elected officials and creating a community dialogue around climate action.

We're Pleased to Introduce the FLORIDA Chapter of ECA!
The Florida chapter of Elders Climate Action became official in August 2019. Our membership covers a large and diverse geographic area and we are in the earliest stages of developing our climate conversation. We are beginning to get to know one another through our monthly zoom meetings.
We hope that intergenerational climate action will become a focus of our chapter since both co-leaders believe in its enormous value and importance. Sue Blythe has been working in this area for many years and hopes to invite others in the chapter to join in this significant work. Maxine Lobel would like to encourage chapter members to become involved with the
Elders Promote the Vote
project and become active volunteers in this well-documented endeavor to get environmentally conscious people to the polls.
Florida has numerous environmental challenges across the state. We hope that as a chapter, we will be able to study and learn about these challenges so that we may create action plans to address them and support one another in this process.
Our goal is to protect this sacred Earth and leave a legacy of a peaceful and sustainable future for future generations.
