United Way of Tompkins County is seeking non-profit, community organizations across Tompkins County to serve as internship host sites for the Stephen E. Garner Summers of Service program.
The Summers of Service program is designed for Tompkins County juniors and seniors who are seeking opportunities to gain meaningful experience in human services; especially in UWTC priority areas including health/wellness, childcare, crisis intervention, safe/affordable housing, food security, etc. The internship must be held between June 27th and September 2nd and provide up to 121 hours of service at no more than 40 hours per week. All summer interns will be employed by their host agency at a minimum wage of $13.20/hr and be subject to all employment regulations and withholdings.
Agencies may compensate their intern at a higher level and/or extend employment beyond the end of the official internship experience at the agency’s own expense. UWTC will provide $1600 in financial support to each agency hosting an intern. Each host site must provide an internship supervisor who will support the student during their time with the organization including the completion of a formal mid and final evaluation of performance. UWTC is especially interested in organizations that are able to offer any type of certification that will help build their intern’s skillset (Lifeguarding, CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Save Serve, etc.) as part of the internship.
Selected host sites will participate in candidate interviews with UWTC to determine student intern placement. Host site applications are currently being accepted at:
All applications must be received by 5:00 PM Friday, April 29th. For additional information please contact Gregg Houck, Director of Community Impact, at ghouck@uwtc.org.
