Greetings!
National Rebuilding Day was a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together in service of its neighbors.
Across Arlington, Fairfax, and Falls Church, hundreds of volunteers generously gave their time, skills, and energy to make homes safer, healthier, and more accessible for neighbors with limited income — all at no cost to the homeowners we serve.
Thanks to our incredible partners, House Captains, and volunteers, we completed critical repairs and safety modifications for 14 homeowner households and 2 nonprofit homes.
Many of the projects focused on improving safety and accessibility, helping residents continue living independently and with dignity in the homes they love. Volunteers built wheelchair ramps, repaired porches and steps, installed interior and exterior railings, and added grab bars and toilet safety frames to reduce fall risks for older adults and individuals with mobility challenges.
Teams also completed critical electrical repairs, replaced nonfunctioning appliances, improved interior and exterior lighting, installed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, repaired flooring and damaged walls and ceilings, redirected water away from homes to prevent future damage, repaired fences and walkways, and cleaned dangerous dryer ducts to help reduce fire hazards.
Beyond these critical repairs and modifications, volunteers painted, trimmed overgrown bushes and trees, and cleared debris from yards — creating safer, more welcoming homes and strengthening pride throughout the community.
Together, volunteers contributed hundreds of hours of service and made a lasting impact that will benefit members of our community for years to come.
