Who doesn't love a train?
If you spend much time at all in Bartow County you just might see a train! Trains are one thing many of us probably have some memory of, whether it is riding one, waving to the engineer, or hearing the whistle sound late into the night. Look around our community and you can see we are deeply connected to trains. They have played a large part in our history.

Use the ticket below and jump on the express train. We will explore some of the old train related images from our archives, challenge your knowledge of trains with our puzzles, and collectively share some of our memories. Also, included are a few activities for the kids.
Did you know?
  • The railroad was completed in what is now Bartow County by the mid-1800s.

  • Much of the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862 occurred on the tracks through Bartow County.

  • In the days of passenger train service between cities such as Atlanta, Savannah, and Chattanooga, there were several hotels in downtown Cartersville that accommodated train passengers.

  • The Cartersville Depot today houses the Cartersville Welcome Center, the Downtown Development Authority office, and the Etowah Bush School.
Whether you are young at heart or young of age, we have prepared some fun puzzles for your enjoyment. So, if you feel a bit derailed right now, take time to have some fun. Good luck. Check our Facebook page Monday for the answers.

When you are home this evening, give this word search a try. See how many you can find. There are two printable versions as well as the answers.

Reading and Writing
For our students, who want to practice their reading and writing, here is a little something for you.

Mail Sorter
This wooden shelving unit with 20 compartments was used in the Cartersville Depot for much of the first half of the 20 th  century for sorting mail, invoices, and other documents. It was donated to the museum in 2014.
Gift Shop...
(Currently closed)
Did you know that the Bartow History Museum gift shop carries a selection of train related merchandise including books, magnets, mugs, hats, key chains, and more?
Let us know if we are on track! Please share with us what you would like to see in our future weekly emails. We hope you find these entertaining, educational, and engaging!
To all our members...
I would like to remind all of our wonderful members that our mission to preserve Bartow County history through outreach activities is still alive and well! Today may be confusing, but our efforts to keep transcribing articles, helping members with preservation of their family heirlooms, and conserving our local heritage is ongoing at the Bartow History Museum even while we’re closed.
