Dear Kristin,
It’s extremely difficult to think about child abuse and neglect happening in our community, but sadly, it is.
So far this year, 108 CASA volunteers have advocated for 186 children in Brown County. Last year, we served 232 children. I wish that number was zero, but as long as there are children under court protection, I am glad that we are able to provide caring CASA volunteers to be a consistent presence in their lives and advocate for their changing needs and best interests.
We know our CASA volunteers make a difference, we see it every day and it drives our mission and vision for every child to feel safe and secure in their home and heart.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and it also coincides with National Volunteer Month, which is a time to celebrate and recognize the significant contributions of volunteers.
If you are a past or current CASA volunteer reading this, we thank YOU! You are the heart of CASA and are doing important work! And if you are a CASA donor, we thank YOU! We can’t do our work without your strong support.
Children who have been appointed a CASA volunteer by the judge are more likely to receive additional services that are critical to their well-being. They are also more likely to succeed in school and spend less time living in foster care.
Together, we all make a difference and help change stories.
With gratitude,
Kristin Jacobs
