President's Message

Happy New Year! Your 2023 FPA Board is looking forward to engaging with you – our FPA Michigan community – this year! We have some exciting new initiatives planned in an effort to reach out on a more personal level with more of you, including the goal of holding events in several regional groups throughout the state on a regular basis (Traverse City, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Troy and Ann Arbor to start!) If you are interested in being a Regional Champion in any of these areas to help these groups get going, please let me know!

We have a wonderful team serving the board again this year! We hope you will join us in welcoming new board members Nathan Zolynsky and Sandra Kerr. We also want to say thank you to several board members whose terms ended in December 2022: As’ad Gourani, Nicole Gopoian Wirick, Diane Winner and Nadine Burns – we thank these members who served our board and our chapter with their expertise, time and talent, giving so much of themselves for our profession! You are so appreciated!

We are kicking off the year with several events already scheduled (registration links for each can be found below under "Upcoming Events"):

  • The FPA of Michigan NexGen committee has a virtual NexGen Happy Hour Meet-Up scheduled on January 19th. Join them as they welcome guest speakers Shane Mason and AJ Ayers of Brooklyn Fi.
  • We will be kicking off the year with a virtual Pro Bono Training on January 24th at Noon –for anyone not trained who would like to be prepared for upcoming one-on-one pro bono opportunities, now is your chance!
  • We have two upcoming Economic Update events planned for February – one in Livonia and one in Grand Rapids (with more being planned in Kalamazoo and hopefully Traverse City).
  • Our 2023 Symposium dates are set: October 12th and 13th in Grand Rapids. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend – the 2022 event was amazing – you won’t want to miss the 2023 Symposium!
  • FPA National has announced three Town Halls on 1/10, 2/10 or 3/9 around the issue of “Financial Planner” title protection – consider signing up for one or all of these town halls to have your voice heard on this important topic for the FPA in the coming year. In case you missed the email, you can click here to register for the Town Halls.
  • And lastly, we are working extremely hard to bring you the content you want. In order for us to enhance our 2023 education events, please take a few moments to complete the survey that our Education Committee put together. Link to survey: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sv/SVOAJc5

We are looking forward to seeing at events throughout the year. Please let us know how we can help to make your FPA most valuable to you. We want to hear from you. Please reach out to me any time (sandy.adams@centerfinplan.com)!
