While school is out, and youth no longer receive school meals, volunteers and community programs are stepping in to provide nutritious food and educational opportunities.

University, as well as STCU employees and their families, volunteered to ensure nutritious snacks are available for children over the summer.

In total, 1,110 Snack Packs, filled with Wheat Thins, Fruit Snacks, Jif Peanut Butter, and a reusable water bottle, were completed.

Spokane County United Way will work with community partners to distribute the snack packs.

Additionally, Spokane County United Way recruited 13 Summer Associates to aid in the prevention of summer learning loss and combat hunger.  Summer Associates provide educational activities, games, and meals at free meal sites throughout our community.

Last year over 2,000 youth were served through this program.

This year's Summer Associates are working with the Spokane County Library District, Spokane Public Library, West Central Community Center, The Zone Project, Spark Central, and Spokane Parks and Recreations at locations throughout our community.

MillionSpokane County United Way Announces $2.5 Million Commitment

Local programs and organizations will benefit from funding.
Spokane County United Way is one of the top three funders in our community for nonprofit programs.Spokane County United Way is making a two-year commitment (2019-2021) of $2.5 million to local community programs and organizations.

Those receiving funding will partner with Spokane County United Way to provide safe homes free of child abuse, neglect and domestic violence, increase academic success for youth and young adults, and create pathways to family-wage jobs and economic success.

This year, eight new programs will receive funding. By funding new programs, United Way increases their ability to support foster youth and refugee children. Additionally, their work to address our community's high rate of domestic violence is taking on a more holistic approach by working both with the YWCA Spokane and the Spokane County Domestic Violence Court system.
