This past weekend we hosted our 15th Annual Elkhorn Oktoberfest! It could not have been accomplished without the community support and participation that we encountered leading up to, and day of, said event! Many hours were spent planning and preparing. In our final week of preparation we joked about being on "Plan E", which was funny and antagonziing. One of Elkhorn Oktoberfest's longstanding committee members, Javan Wehmeier, mentioned wearing his If Plan A Fails t-shirt to remind us that Plan E is still very good!
|
|
All the planning and preparation by staff and community volunteers kept us moving forward and working together to produce a safe, yet celebratory experience for all who attended. How did it go, you ask?...
RECAP: The day started crisp and cool with the promise of afternoon warmth and the slight mention of Mother Nature adding gale winds to the day's itinerary. She did. With gusts of 50mph winds, Plan E became Plan F, G and H depending on one's ability to endure the elements. Tables toppled, tents languished and eventually people went home. However amidst the turmoil, there was delight and laughter, shopping and eating, and dancing in the streets! It was a good day.
We are so grateful to all of our volunteers, craft and food vendors, band members, and Oktoberfest guests who made the choice to brave the weather man's forecast and take part in the days festivities. No matter the duration of your stay, we celebrate your commitment to the event and our community, and we THANK YOU!
Elkhorn Oktoberfest is over. And now we're left to pack away the days accoutrements and tally up the successes and challenges from a 24 hour period. This year's Oktoberfest was accomplished by maintaining a can-do attitude and fostering teamwork, which we'll carry through to 2021 planning. We discovered new ways of engaging our business community and streamlined several processes throughout. We tapped into ingenuity and owned problem solving. And in the end we gained wisdom and the reminder that what one cannot accomplish alone, can be done with many. This year's success came in the form of friendships, engagement, tenacity and empowerment! Turns out, "Plan E" wasn't so bad after all.
No matter what letter of "The Plan" you're on...just remember there are always more letters in the alphabet and an endless list of possibilities.
