Dear friends,
The death of George Floyd was only the most recent example of the death of a black man under circumstances that suggest racial animus and police brutality as the cause
. We have seen this before.
Years ago, I represented victims in civil rights cases who were denied housing and jobs due to the color of their skin. Others were victims of violence at the hands of police and private citizens.
Sadly, today systemic racism still exists... and it's deadly to our communities around the nation.
Right now we have a window of time. Eventually the headlines will change, and it's OUR job not to forget.
I am calling on my colleagues in Yolo County to use this moment to create change...
change that's been overdue for much too long.
Listen. Speak up. Try Harder. Come together. #BlackLivesMatter and we need to do better.
