Join the Comprehensive Plan Update Working Group

We are looking for community members with a diversity of perspectives and experiences to participate in the Comprehensive Plan Update Working Group.

Working Group members will learn about planning and community design practices, advise County staff on Comprehensive Plan recommendations and community engagement, and help with community outreach.

The anticipated time commitment for Working Group members is 10 hours per month. Working Group members will be paid at a rate of approximately $15 per hour for their time and expertise shared with County staff. No prior volunteer, education, or work experience in community planning is required.

The application deadline is Monday, February 28th.

We are updating the plan because a lot has changed since 2015 (when the plan was last updated). Albemarle County has grown and several new plans and policies have been adopted by the County, like the Climate Action Plan and the Affordable Housing Policy. We also want to make sure the Comp Plan is focused on equity and inclusion so that all Albemarle residents have the opportunity to thrive and experience well-being.

The Comp Plan is important because it helps us to:

  • decide how and where the county should grow,
  • support local businesses and industry,
  • protect and enhance natural resources,
  • provide transportation options for walking, biking, transit, and driving, and
  • allow and encourage a variety of housing types
