Dear CASA Supporter

This fall you have undoubtedly read emails and social media posts from our program noting the dramatic rise in the number of children needing CASA volunteers in Lake County. A great many factors contribute to a removal of a child from their home. The end result however, is a child whose essential developmental years are lost as they struggle with the uncertainty and chaos of the foster care system. Despite the challenge of growing wait lists, we are determined to find a CASA volunteer for every child experiencing this tragic reality, but we need your help to do it.

On October 8th, the Illinois CASA Organization launched an important marketing campaign to help us all align the needs of recruitment, funding and bringing more people together to serve our kids in foster care. Please help us to share these messages with your friends, family, and coworkers. Every new volunteer means that a child won’t have to face foster care alone.

Please contact me at 847-383-6260 to learn more about CASA and what you can do to change a child’s story.
Yours in advocacy,
Terri Zenner Greenberg
Executive Director

Kudos for some amazing CASA Volunteers!

To CASA Ryan for his valiant efforts in finding a placement for his 14 year old CASA teen who is stuck in a shelter 5 hours away. Ryan worked diligently to cut through the red tape to finally get to talk to his teen on the phone and has encouraged his CASA teen by sending him a small care package to keep his spirits up. Ryan has made a tremendous effort trying to find a foster home and has brought a lot of great ideas to the table. He’s also engaging the DCFS educational liaison to ensure his CASA teen’s educational needs are being met at the shelter. Simultaneously, Ryan has been working very hard to help bring placement options for the teen’s 18 year old brother who is being kicked out of his foster home.
To CASA Kathy who took an educational neglect case. Kathy has worked with the school for the last six weeks setting up free lunches, waived fees, and athletic programs for the three minors and other services. Kathy, who works full time at a new job, has spent hours working to make sure the children in her case were ready to start the new school year.
To CASA Laura for her extraordinary efforts over the last month to advocate for her CASA child staying in a foster home in which he can thrive. She has spent hours visiting him, talking with the agency and the GAL, coming to court and preparing to testify to ensure that he isn’t returned to a foster home that is not a good fit for him. She has truly been her CASA child’s voice in court.
