Canadian Association for Equality needs your help to introduce an Equal Shared Parenting Bill in Canada
As you may already know, the Canadian family law system does not fully meet the needs of families who are going through separation and divorce. The current system encourages conflict between partners and diverts resources which could instead be used for the benefits of the children.
Many jurisdictions in Europe and in the United States have introduced Equal Shared Parenting laws where parenting time and parental decision making are shared as default after divorce, unless there is evidence of abuse (rebuttable presumption of shared parenting). There is a global momentum for such legislation and it is time for Canada to catch up with other progressive democracies regarding this issue.
In conjunction with other organizations, the Canadian Association for Equality is advancing Equal Shared Parenting Legislation either via a private members’ bill in the House of Commons or through the Senate.
We need your help. We need volunteers as part of a coordinated campaign to reach out to Canadian legislators to seek their support in sponsoring an Equal Shared Parenting Bill. We will provide all the necessary resources and training.
If you are interested, please click on this link and register by end of Friday February 25th. We will be in touch shortly after.
