  We're Splashing Into Summer! | |
June was a whirlwind of activity at all of our sites. We finished out a wonderful school year and jumped into summer camp with both feet! Our campers' days have already been filled with adventure, fun, and learning, and we are just getting started. Your generous support gives local children an enriching and engaging summer experience and an opportunity to make lifelong memories with friends. We are so very grateful!
Please watch the video below to see some of the smiles YOU made possible this month, then scroll down for many more June highlights!

School Year Send-off!
Our White Marsh Site finished off the school year with lots of exciting activities. The preschoolers participated in White Marsh Elementary School’s Career Day, where they met a K-9 police officer and his 4-legged partner, had the opportunity to spray a real fire hose and explore a fire truck, and sang along with local musician Leslie Aldeman from Jump Start with the Arts. The school age friends enjoyed outdoor yoga with Ms. Karen and celebrated a successful school year with an ice cream social. The celebrations continued the following week when they invited their fathers and special men for family fun at their Donuts with Dad party!
| | |
Pets, Pals, and Puppets!
Summer is in full swing at our Preschool Site! Campers learned all about animals during Zoo Week, and made lots of new furry friends when the Delmarva Party Animals came for a visit!
Our kiddos were full of site spirit during fun theme days, including Pajama Day, Silly Sunglasses Day, Sports Team Day, and dress up days for their favorite characters, like Bluey, Spongebob and Patrick, and Spiderman. Another highlight of the month was a field trip to the Talbot County Free Library for the Chester and the Magic Shovel puppet show. And of course, June wouldn’t be complete without Father’s Day celebrations. It was all about family time during Donuts with Dads and Grandfathers!
| |
United We Stand!
Our Easton School Age Site kicked off Summer Camp with Unity Week! It was an opportunity for the teachers and campers to get to know each other, build friendships, celebrate their differences, and make wonderful memories! Together, they made slime concoctions, created sidewalk chalk masterpieces, built structures and Lego projects, and of course, spent lots of time outside playing in the sunny weather. We can’t wait to see what else they will team up to do as camp continues!
| |
Sunshine, Sweet Treats, and Safari!
Cordova celebrated the sunshine with sun safety activities, making their own sun visors and conducting an experiment with sunscreen. They also continued their anti-smoking activities with bingo and trivia. Nothing goes better with the first week of camp than ice cream, and Amy Cools Ice Cream Truck stopped by to deliver one of our favorite summer treats! The site hit the road for their first field trip of the summer, heading to the zoo for a guided tour and to meet animals from turtles to wolves and everywhere in between. Fun was had by all!
| |
Water, Water Everywhere!
St. Michaels dove right into summer camp with a splash! They made beachy artwork, dished up an ocean-themed Tasty Tuesday snack, and headed to the Bay Hundred Pool to beat the heat with free swim for the older campers and water play for our littlest friends. Another special highlight this month was the addition of Ms. Ayonna from Green Light & Co. Our kids are showing off their best moves during Ms. Ayonna’s super fun line dancing lessons!
A special shout out goes to JJ Marrah, who donated the proceeds from his lemonade stand to Critchlow Adkins. We are so proud of JJ and his big heart! And we can’t forget Dad… The children worked hard, creating beautiful and personal works of art to show their fathers how much they are appreciated!

Congratulations to the class of 2026! This month, we celebrated our preschool and pre-k graduates as they prepare for their next big adventure! The Preschool Site marked the graduation with a special trip to Storm & Daughters Ice Cream and Thompson Park. In St. Michaels, they celebrated with a memorable evening themed "Oh, The Places You'll Go." Our Cordova Site gathered family and friends to honor their graduates and reflected on what makes Critchlow Adkins special - We're more than a community; we're family.
Thank you to all of our incredible staff and our wonderful families for helping our children reach this important milestone!
| | Our campers are in for many more summer camp adventures, thanks to you! Every week, each of our sites chooses a different theme. Over the course of the next two months, our campers will become chefs, scientists, undersea explorers, musicians, historians, and athletes, among other things. Many will also take two weeks of free swimming lessons, thanks to SOS Sink or Swim, Talbot Parks and Recreation, and Rennie Gay and his family. They will also head out on adventures right here on the Eastern Shore, traveling on boats, learning at local museums, and having the time of their lives at play places and trampoline parks. We can't wait to share more of the amazing summer experiences YOU make possible for our Critchlow Adkins Kids! | | | | | It's that time of year again... As we are so close to Father's Day, we thought this month we would introduce you to one of our Critchlow Adkins Dads. He also happens to be our newest CACC Star Business Partner. Meet Sveinn Storm, owner of Storm & Daughters Ice Cream!
Sveinn was born and raised in Easton and has three children - two daughters and a son. He is an amateur powerlifter, Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast, and a baker.
| | |
Sveinn has had his store for seven years. His father owned Storm Bros Ice Cream in Annapolis for 50 years, and Sveinn learned everything he knows from managing that store. Eventually, he decided he wanted to open his own store in Easton (to the delight of local tastebuds)!
Sveinn's son has attended Critchlow Adkins for nearly two years, and in his words, "It's been a godsend. The teachers and environment are amazing, and I deeply appreciate and believe in their mission to provide affordable childcare. Frankly, I don't know how I'd get by without it."
When asked about joining our business partnership program, he said, "I'm thrilled to finally be in a position to support the organization in some small way."
We are so grateful to have Sveinn as a part of our Critchlow Adkins family!

| | A June STEAM Project YOU Can Do At Home! | | We recently celebrated the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. In honor of the official beginning of summer, we're sharing some neat shadow activities you can do at home with your children. These are a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the sunshine! But first... As always, let's get into the STEAM spirit with a good book. | | | | Our June recommendation is Summer A Solstice Story, by Kelsey E. Gross. The book follows forest animals as they gather for the solstice. Guided by Owl, friends like Squirrel, Raccoon, and Deer exchange gifts of love and light to wish their young ones a bright, joyful future and explore the wonders of nature. | | |
Now that you're fully immersed in the magic of sun and shadows, it's time to head outside for some shadow art! You can make shadow art any time of day - in fact, it might be neat to do these projects when the sun is in different positions so your child can observe how the shadows change!
Shadow art is easy and fun, and can be made with just about anything, like toys, sculptures made of play dough or aluminum foil, nature, and even your own shadow! As long as you have paper and art supplies, you're never lacking in shadowy subject matter!
| | | | As always, be as creative as you want, and have lots of fun learning together! Visit our website for hundreds of additional STEAM activities you can do at home! | | You Fill Our Days With Sunshine! | Artwork by Mikayla, Critchlow Adkins Student | | | |
