We're Falling for Fall Weddings

Studio I Do Bridals Virginia Beach, Cara Cait Creative, Olivia Diane Photography, Heather Parks Turner

It's September, so that means we can embrace all things fall. That means all the PSL, apple pies, tractor rides, and, of course, gorgeous fall weddings. Many think that summer is the most popular month for weddings, but fall is actually booming with autumn nuptials. The weather is cooling down, especially in the evening when many weddings take place. From the warm colors to the vast amount of outdoor ceremony spaces, there's no shortage of inspiration for your fall wedding.

Hampton Roads is FULL of outdoor wedding venues. Here are some of our favorites:

One of the fun things about fall decor is that you can use so many parts of nature for your decor. Pinecones are a beautiful and FREE way to bring fall into your decor. Pair it with gorgeous greenery for a stunning contrast. Another fun way to bring fall into your wedding decor? Pumpkins! The fun thing about pumpkins is that they come in so many sizes and colors. White pumpkins are a very chic way to bring fall into your wedding. You can use them in your centerpieces or lining the aisle of your ceremony space.

Just as you wouldn't imagine putting your bridesmaids in full length satin gowns for your outdoor summer wedding, knee length chiffon dresses in late fall would probably leave your ladies a little chilly as the night gets cooler. We love the idea of embracing luscious velvet for your bridesmaids gowns. Jewel tones are very trendy color for fall and these gowns from a wedding coordinated by Baxter's Creative Events were just perfect. This bridal party looked stunning walking down the streets of Norfolk in the fall.

While you want to keep your bridal party warm, don't forget about your guests! There are so many fun ways to keep your guests comfortable in colder temps. Try to incorporate some of these:

Warm Beverage Bar: hot chocolate, coffee, Hot Toddy, tea (a bar of your favorite loose leaf blends would be so lovely!)
Blankets: Put a few baskets of blankets at the end of your ceremony aisle for your guests to use while you say "I do".
Fire pit: If your venue allows, set up a fire pit for your guests to warm up near during downtime.

Now for the delicious part of fall- the FOOD! We love seeing couples incorporate foods that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to go with the fall theme. Comfort food does just that. Who wouldn't love a warm glass of gooey mac and cheese during cocktail hour? Soup and grilled cheese is also a fun option! Talk with your caterer about options to keep your guests full and warm. Late night warm chocolate chip cookies and coffee would be a great way to end the evening.

Fall is also a perfect time to take engagement photos. Take advantage of the foliage and find a beautiful outdoor spot to take photos. Your photographer knows the best spots in the area for picture perfect poses. The other bonus? Cooler temperatures mean you won't be hot and sweaty during your session, which could make for a more comfortable few hours. When you're comfortable, you will feel more at ease for your photos. Your photographer can also help you come up with the perfect outfits for the fall. Many will have suggestions if you're stuck staring at Pinterest boards.
