Resilience Coordinator II (Adaptation)
The Resilience Coordinator II will assist with management and planning for climate adaptation and resilience, primarily for the County, including coordination with other partners such as cities, universities, non-profits, and the private sector. This position will provide technical support to the office and other departments to identify opportunities to reduce risk and improve resilience and efficiency, and will also support efforts to conduct research and communicate the latest science, analysis and policy to internal and external audiences. Professional experience with tools that support graphic and written communication, such as GIS, Adobe Suite, & Powerpoint, are preferred. 
Example activities may include: 
  • Acting as a specialist in the climate science arena, including having a solid understanding of the current state of the science associated with sea level rise and other climate change impacts and the physical, social and economic consequences. 
  • Leading planning efforts in Adaptation Action Areas. This could include leading public outreach, conducting charrettes, and identifying actions and policy changes that would be needed to create more resilient communities.  
  • Writing and editing reports to support policies to address sea level rise.  
  • Actively engaging in the relevant academic, scientific, professional, and non-profit communities through presentations and participation in relevant conferences and other activities. This can include facilitating workshops and dialogues with experts from various relevant fields such as insurance and risk management.  
  • Supporting public engagement and outreach efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in climate adaptation, urban planning, environmental science, engineering, floodplain management, sustainability, or a related field are required.


Preferences:

Knowledge and experience in professional administrative and/or project management, particularly in the areas of climate adaptation planning, sea level rise science and impacts, risk mitigation, and floodplain or water management, are highly preferred. Excellent analytical, research and writing skills and professional experience with tools that support graphic and written communication, such as GIS, Adobe Suite, and PowerPoint, are preferred.
About the Office:

The Office of Resilience collaborates both internally with County departments and externally with government agencies, universities, business groups, non-profit organizations to facilitate countywide resilience and environmental sustainability.
