"One of the best things...since parenting the 2nd time"
Generations United's conference provides a chance for grandparent caregivers to be heard, connect with other caregivers, and take part in high-caliber learning opportunities that empower grandparent caregivers to make changes in their communities when they return home.  Our $5,000 fundraising goal for grandfamily scholarships is far from the $4 billion that grandparents and other relatives save taxpayers each year by raising children and keeping them out of foster care. We need your help to reach our grandfamily scholarship goal. Donate today to help support grandfamily caregivers and young people in grandfamilies participation in Generations United's Global Intergenerational Conference, from June 12-14, in Portland, OR. Old Town Road by Lil Nas X (feat. Billy Ray Cyrus)
Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" holds onto the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for three weeks in a row. The 20-year-old held that position by himself in its first week, but after controversy over Billboard removing the song from the country chart he re-recorded the song with Billy Ray Cyrus, 57, who has joined him at No. 1 for weeks two and three. Culture United highlights films, books, music and TV shows with an intergenerational theme. Do you have any suggestions?  and we'll share in the weeks and months to come. We welcome responses or reactions. We'll possibly feature them on our blog. See disclaimer.

Harmony Bridge at Arizona State University
Harmony Bridge is a partnership that involves Arizona State University School of Music education, performance and therapy areas; Kyrene Aprende Middle School; and Sunrise Senior Living Community. The program connects students with older adults through music. It's modeled after Dallas Brass, an international brass and percussion ensemble to bring music to people in their own communities. Think Intergenerational - Great Resources
Research and Resources
States With High Opioid Prescribing Rates Have Higher Rates of Grandparents Responsible for Grandchildren. In the wake of the opioid epidemic that was declared a public health crisis in 2017, there has been increasing concern about what happens to the children of parents with substance abuse disorders who may be unable to care for their children.  New Census Bureau  research shows that grandparents may sometimes step in to care for these children. Quote
"If you go out in the countryside someplace and build a thousand residential units and have them cheap enough, you'll probably fill the place up. But that's not going to make a community. I think having facilities readily available for people of all kinds, from little kids to the elderly - that's the most important thing of all." ~Robert Simon, founder of Reston, VA, a Generations United Best Intergenerational Community
