Are you registered for this year's PetsWALK presented by Poulsbo Animal Clinic? What are you waiting for? Let's do this!

You can register ONLINE TODAY and start fundraising for the animals at Kitsap Humane Society. This event is lots of fun and pets are welcome!

We’re excited to host roughly 400 animal lovers and their pets for this fun 5k charity walk/run and 1-mile race in Downtown Poulsbo! All proceeds help Kitsap Humane Society provide lifesaving care and shelter for more than 6,800 homeless, abandoned, and injured pets every year, plus spay/neuter surgeries for pets in low-income families. Your help is needed to provide these awesome services in our community!

After PetsWALK, VCA Central Kitsap is presenting a Pet Expo at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park starting at noon. Expect to have a blast watching or participating in the costume contest, talent contest, kids dash, and other fun activities. Roughly 30 vendors will share pet treats and samples. Afterward, head over to Naturally 4 Paws for the After-Party at their new Poulsbo location grand opening!
Who let the dogs out? We did! Into the community, that is!

We launched our new Kickin’ it with K9s program Memorial Day weekend, and what a success it was! Twenty-one dogs went out on field trips with 51 people, including the family on the right, who came all the way from Seattle to hang out with Little Dog here!!!

“I wish everyone who is considering getting a dog but does not want to get a shelter dog or a pittie due to preconceived notions of what those dogs are like, could meet Little Dog. She absolutely would shatter those stereotypes. She was the sweetest, calmest, gentlest dog, and we had only just met her!”

After their outings, the dogs were so happy, loose and relaxed - just as we had hoped!

After volunteer Corrine McClellan posted on photos of her outing on social media with our sweet Califa, another community member reached out and adopted her!

"I am so glad to have been a part of this success story, which would not have happened without this amazing program!," she said. "I can't WAIT to go on more outings with dogs and hopefully continue to change the lives of both the dogs and the family's adopting them."

Kitsap Humane Society developed Kickin’ it with K9s as a participant in a 100-shelter, national study on the impact field trips and sleepovers can have on reducing stress
levels and improving the wellbeing of shelter dogs. The study is being carried out by Arizona State University and funded by Maddie’s Fund.

“I’m so excited about the opportunities this provides for our shelter dogs to just go out and do normal dog stuff, like hanging out with people on walks, or laying around on the couch,” said Sarah Moody-Cook, KHS Director of Animal Welfare.

“But I’m most excited about the opportunity this provides for animal lovers in our community to partner with us in caring for shelter dogs.”

June is Pet Licensing Month at Kitsap Humane Society! We want you to license your pets (or renew their licenses) so they can be returned to you if they get lost. That's especially important now, with Fourth of July fireworks right around the corner -- a time when many pets are scared by the noise, escape, and end up lost or in shelters. More animals are lost during the spring and summer months than any other time of year.

Sadly, 75 percent of lost pets never make it home. If they don't have a license or microchip we’re unable to reunite them with their families, where they belong.

Licenses help lost pets get back home!  Buy or renew your pet license   between June 1-June 30, and you’ll be entered to win one of THREE awesome prizes: $70 worth of gift cards from PetSmart and Safeway, or one of two baskets for your dog or cat filled with pet food, treats, toys and Kitsap Humane Society swag! Licensing is fast, easy and inexpensive. License your pet today for a chance to win!
So much progress has been made since September 2018, when construction began on our new Pet Adoption Center, which opens this summer! Here's the latest video of our construction progress.

We're also making progress on our Pet Lifesaving Campaign fundraising, raising $5.9 million toward our $8.5 million goal. If you're interested in making an investment in our new animal shelter, please contact Donor Relations Director Tom Weed, Director of Development Kim Cizek Allen, or Executive Director Eric Stevens. They'd love to give you a personal tour.
Watch the video and please share it widely. We know there's a forever family out there for Rolph -- please help us find them! If you're interested in Rolph, please contact Ashley at acipolletti@kitsap-humane.org

Adorable Adoptable
Perry is a charming and playful 5-year-old tabby cat who will greet you with a warm meow to say hello! He is a big fan of chasing wand toys, laser pointers, and fake mice, but Perry’s favorite activities when he is not too busy playing include cuddling with his favorite humans, napping on cat trees, and chirping at birds through windowsills.

Perry is an extra special boy because he has a condition called Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Fortunately, cats with FIV can live long happy lives, and this doesn't slow Perry down one bit!

Perry loves to snuggle and will climb right in your lap to give you all the headbutts and purrs in the world. If you love a snuggly cat with a dash of sass, then Perry
may be the boy for you!

Cats with FIV can live long, happy lives and this condition doesn't seem to slow Perry down one bit!
Volunteer Spotlight
This month our volunteer spotlight falls on Jenny Paulson! Jenny is a volunteer and foster parent for KHS, who recently celebrated 4 years volunteering with KHS – Happy Anniversary Jenny!

As a volunteer, Jenny helps our events team with info booths and walks some of our smaller resident canines, but can most often be found working with our veterinary services team to assist members of the public collecting their beloved pets after spay or neuter surgery. Jenny’s warmth and kindness helps KHS customers feel valued and confident in providing aftercare for their pets.

In addition to volunteering at the shelter, Jenny also helps out by fostering kittens until they are large enough for adoption. She is especially skilled at working with our shy mom-cats who need a quiet, calm place to raise their babies. She has brought an outstanding level of care and
Jenny Paulson
commitment to all kittens who have entered her home.Thank you, Jenny, for all you do for KHS!
Employee Spotlight
JoAnne Schnyder
This month’s Employee Spotlight is shining on JoAnne Schnyder, our Accounting and HR Coordinator! Jo has a heart for shelter pets and has volunteered for humane societies for 20 years. She joined KHS in 2015, wanting her worklife to support a mission she cares about.

Jo works in the Annex, and often plans the care/feeding/walks for dogs who reside there because they need a break from the shelter. She also takes good care of KHS staff, ensuring that questions and concerns are addressed and that everyone gets paid on time! Her other responsibilities include collection and processing of donations and income; procedures for new hires; and handling employee benefits.

"JoAnne goes above and beyond every day to support KHS’s staff and our
incredible animals," said her supervisor,
Finance Director Mel Fenswick. "She
always makes herself available for staff and especially for the Annex pets who all seem to love her the most. Her work is impeccable and she truly does whatever it takes and then some!"

Jo loves to run and garden, and she and her husband Mike have two cats.

Thank you, Jo, for all you do!
Community Spotlight
Hound & Bottle in Manette has the hugest heart for the Kitsap community and our shelter pets! For the past several years, Hound & Bottle has hosted an early spring event to thank our donors and supporters. They have generously donated delicious food and delectable beverages, lovingly prepared by owners Alan & Jodi Davis.

On April 2, Hound & Bottle, in partnership with Hitchcock Restaurant, held an intimate fundraising dinner to benefit our shelter. The event raised $14,500 for pets in need and Kitsap Humane Society and introduced us to new friends and supporters!

We couldn’t do this lifesaving work without a village of willing partners and we are so thankful to Hound & Bottle for their generosity and support!
Alan and Jodi Davis
It's kitten season! If you come across a litter of kittens all alone, don't panic! Their mama is likely out hunting for food or waiting nearby for you to leave so she can return. While we humans might feel a strong urge to rescue the kittens, the truth is the best thing to do is leave them alone. Being with their mother is the best way to ensure their survival. Once they are about 8 weeks old, the mother and kittens can be brought to Kitsap Humane Society for FREE spay/neuter services and adoption via our Last Litter program.
