Spotlight on the Seniors
SBS Community Cheers on the Class of 2023
| |
The Class of 2023 is getting ready for their big day in just a few weeks. Our seniors continued the annual processional tradition through the campus May 4th as the entire school cheered them on. This year's parade had a different twist by including the other Class of 2023--our StoneBridge Kindergarteners. The parade ended with some pretty fun photos together!
We're beyond proud and excited for these 23 seniors as they prepare to close the chapter on their StoneBridge years, join others as new SBS alumni, and venture into the next step in God's calling on their lives. Please watch for each senior's spotlight post on Facebook and Instagram and encourage them together as a community. They are the ultimate fruit of our mission here at StoneBridge School--to raise up leaders who are equipped for life and empowered in Christ. They are truly an eternal excellence!

Become One of 2,000 SBS Cornerstone Givers
As we look ahead to breaking ground on our Upper School building this June, we are prayerfully pressing forward with our campus plans and goal to reach $4.2 million to fully fund this effort. A fully funded campaign allows us to:
- Optimize our learning spaces, by creating Art and STEM labs
- Secure our campus by minimizing student movement outside of enclosed spaces
- Add parking, new pavement, walkways, and curbs
- Keep our school in a solid financial position to further equip Nation Changers well into the future.
We believe these goals are reachable within the next 12 months. That is why we are asking that you prayerfully consider joining the SBS Cornerstone Campaign.
Join the movement and become one of 2,000 StoneBridge Cornerstone givers by committing to just $85 a month over the next 12 months.

Dr. Brian Matney,
Upper School Principal
We're excited to welcome aboard Dr. Brian Matney as our new Upper School Principal starting in July. Dr. Matney will be stepping into this role as Dr. Vince Carroll leaves to join Great Bridge Christian Academy to help guide their program through accreditation.
Dr. Matney, a native of Virginia Beach, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia who went on to earn his Ph.D. as a Dean Smith Scholar and fellowship recipient at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has been named the Commonwealth’s Outstanding High School Principal/ Administrator of the Year on three occasions--by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals, where he also served as president in 2015; UVA’s Curry Foundation; and the Virginia Student Councils Association.
Dr. Matney is also a former government teacher who helped sponsor teams presenting before the Virginia Supreme Court as part of the Virginia Bar Association’s annual Model Judiciary Moot Court competition. His wife, Kathryn, is an advanced placement chemistry teacher at Tallwood High School, where she also helps sponsor a vibrant Young Life chapter. They are members of Great Bridge Free Will Baptist Church and are the proud parents of two sons, Will and J.T., both honor graduates of Virginia Tech.
Dr. Matney will continue to be on campus periodically before the end of this school year to help with his transition to StoneBridge. Please feel free to welcome him if you see him on campus anytime!

Ashley Skinner, Lower School Assistant Principal
We're also happy to welcome aboard Mrs. Ashley Skinner as our new Lower School Assistant Principal. Ashley has been an educator for 12 years and earned an Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in K-12 Administration from Regent University.
In her most recent role, she served as a school testing facilitator and administrator aide in the Isle of Wight County Schools division. Prior to this placement she served as a summer school administrator and graduation coach within the Suffolk Public Schools division.
Ashley began her teaching career as a health and physical education teacher at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy shortly after earning her bachelor of science in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. During this time, Ashley served in various capacities at the varsity and junior varsity levels, coaching field hockey, softball, and lacrosse. She later earned a master of education from Regent University which afforded professional growth opportunities and educational experiences from a Christian worldview.
Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. She is an active member of Liberty Live Baptist Church where she serves as a small group leader in the preschool ministry. She also loves to be involved with sports and outdoor activities.
“Over the past couple of years, God has been paving the path to lead our family to StoneBridge," she said. "I am truly humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve as the Lower School Assistant Principal for StoneBridge School.”
