It’s hard to believe it’s already mid-April! With some of our students just weeks away from graduation, we’ve still got great activities planned for the rest of the school year. After enjoying a meaningful Passover, we’re excited to celebrate Israel Week and share new ways for you to stay connected with us and learn more about our students and impactful programming across the city.

Passover at MCH was wonderfully crowded and full of lively discussions. We hosted more than 250 students and young adults at seders at our office and Silverstein Base Chicago homes. At our memorable second-night seder led by Rabbi Nicole, there was an icebreaker where students shared their journey to the seder, both literally and metaphorically. They also put a fun spin on the “Four Questions” by assigning each table to be one of the four children, which allowed the students to look at a song they’ve heard

for years from a different perspective.

Baser Cheryl describes the rewarding experience of celebrating Passover at Base Logan Square.

Students enjoy a second-night seder at our MCH office.

We’re excited to spend the next week celebrating Israel and its 78 years of independence by first commemorating Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day), and the next day celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day). It can be hard to mark this shift from grief and sorrow to joy and freedom, especially as so many Israelis and Jews around the world are still mourning the recent loss of loved ones. In these moments of pain, it’s more important than ever to celebrate and honor Jewish resilience and independence.

With this spirit in mind, Rav Ezra and our Israel Fellow Roni will be kicking off the festivities with "Mega Israel Shabbat" tonight at Luba and Bernard Friedman Base Loop. All MCH students are free to join and enjoy an Israeli-themed Shabbat dinner!

We are so grateful to the Iris and Steven Podolsky Israel Leadership and Advocacy Initiative for funding this incredibly special week.

Earlier this week, the Center for Student Engagement and the Campus Activities Network hosted their annual Student Organization Awards. Hillel at Loyola won Religious/Spiritual Organization of the Year!

We are so proud of Maya Marcus, our Loyola Jewish Life Associate, as well as our student leaders for creating such an inclusive and impactful community.

It’s time to mark your calendars because Hillel Global Giving Week (HGGW) is just a couple weeks away. The fundraiser runs from May 4–May 8, and the first $5,000 will be matched, meaning your donation will make an even bigger impact! Throughout that week, we’ll be sharing stories that highlight our amazing students and how MCH is uniquely shaping Jewish life across Chicago. Keep an eye out for these messages, and make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram to check out the content we’ll be posting each day!

It’s like LinkedIn but for Jews in every industry! The Jewish Career Network, powered by Hillel, lets you connect with Jewish grads of all ages. It’s where you can search for new jobs, make connections, and get career advice from mentors around the world.

If you’re an alum of one of our schools, you’ll automatically be added to our Metro Chicago Hillel group once you register and can receive updates on what’s happening on our campuses. We also have separate groups for DePaul, UIC, and Loyola.
