Thousands of Montgomery County children rely on food access opportunities in school. As per the latest Large School District Report by FRAC, MCPS reports a 44% enrollment in the Free-and-Reduced-Priced Meals program. At Manna Food Center, we recognize that extending support beyond the school year is vital for child development. However, bridging this gap over the summer presents a significant challenge. This understanding drives our steadfast commitment to addressing our community's needs throughout these critical months.
As school doors closed for the break, Manna maintained partnerships with all 6 of our pantry schools to host monthly choice distributions, supplying much-needed fresh produce and shelf-stable basics to support the nutrition of the whole family. Weekend Bag distributions also continued at participating schools over the summer to supply children with a weekly support of healthy budget-boosting foods. Our summer service capped a full year of School-Based service; we distributed over 97,000 Smart Sacks Weekend Bags to students. We look forward to returning to full service when school reconvenes.
We invite you to consider a hugely impactful way to support Manna’s School-Based Programs that reach students and their families when they need it most. August is National Make-A-Will Month and we've partnered with FreeWill to support our community in completing this essential task. Why now?
