A note from our Programs Manager,

In July of 2025, Earth Economics estimated that within California, “building a well-established, mature home hardening sector could potentially reach up to $116.4 billion in economic activity, contribute $68.7 billion in GDP, support nearly half a million jobs, and generate $2.7 billion in state tax revenue.” This is an opportunity for local contractor and landscaping businesses to make homes and communities in Ventura County more fire safe, building on skilled work and services that they already provide.

With that in mind, this year the Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council took on the task of training construction and landscaping professionals in home hardening and defensible space principles. This effort was spearheaded by Max Young, who was advised by local agencies, including Ventura Fire and Ventura County Fire, and leading businesses providing home hardening and defensible space services. Through our work throughout the Ventura County Wildland Urban interface, we can see that communities are eager to protect themselves from the odds in our area. For residents like you who already know what you'd like to do, our debut Contractor Directory will serve as a resource that will help you put that knowledge into action!
