A world apart from the race of alpine skiers and snowboarders, spend the day weaving through peaceful forests and meadows on cross-country skis or snowshoes. The White Pass area offers an intricate web of groomed trails at the resort, as well as scenic logging roads and open slopes. See  sno-parks.
Those with a love of the snow and a need for speed -- climb aboard a snowmobile and experience the Byway's beckoning backcountry. Miles and miles of groomed trails are ready and waiting for this enthusiastic group of recreationists to hit the trails. Weaving in and out of the snow-covered trees, racing across meadows of white powder -- feel the rush of the cold winter air and experience this exhilarating, high speed adventure. Personal-use Christmas tree cutting permits are available for purchase through the Gifford Pinchot National Forest at $5 each. There is a five-permit limit per household. The Christmas tree permits include a map of cutting areas as well as an informational sheet with special instructions for cutting Christmas trees in the national forest.
 
Households with fourth-grade students will be able to acquire a free Christmas tree permit with an "Every Kid in a Park" pass. Apply online. Local Vendors selling permits include:

The White Pass Scenic Byway is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization created for the purpose of public education and promotion of the byway's natural and cultural resources as well as enhancing the assets and resources located along the byway.
The White Pass Scenic Byway, U.S. Highway 12, extending from I-5 to Naches is an exceptional journey, offering travelers experiences of wildlife, outstanding scenic and natural landscapes, and unlimited outdoor recreation. The location between Mt. Rainier National Park and Mt. St. Helens National Monument and Mt. Adams is a premier recreation destination. 
The primary funding is granted through the Lewis County Lodging Tax. Some activities are enhanced with additional sponsor funding from our partners and supporters. Our mission is to promote all there is to see and do along the Byway. Each sponsor will receive one featured advertisement in our monthly newsletter.
