It's been some time since our last newsletter, but we're back with updates from across the School. Take some time to review the newsletter for what's been happening, and read the dean's letter for some reflections on our community and where we're headed this quarter.

LLUH announces upcoming retirement of President Richard Hart, MD, DrPH


Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) announced the upcoming retirement of its president, Richard Hart, MD, DrPH, following a distinguished tenure of service marked by faithful leadership, vision, and dedication to the organization’s mission. 

School of Public Health launches 3-year bachelor’s degree in global health

Loma Linda University School of Public Health has launched a three-year bachelor’s degree in global health to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address today’s most pressing health challenges from a global health perspective.

LLU School of Public Health receives maximum 7-year accreditation

Loma Linda University School of Public Health (SPH) has received the highest level of accreditation — a seven-year term — from the Council of Education for Public Health (CEPH), a nationally recognized accrediting body for public health schools and programs. This recognition extends through Dec. 31, 2031, affirming the school’s commitment to academic excellence and innovative research.

Study shows vegetarian diets have reduced risk of medium-frequency cancers


A longitudinal study of various vegetarian diets shows a 12% overall reduced risk of all cancers and strong support for the finding in less-studied, medium-frequency cancers, such as stomach and lymphomas.

Commercial water dispensing machines may contain more contamination than tap water

Water dispensing machines in commercial spaces may contain higher levels of microbial contamination if they aren’t cleaned regularly compared to the tap water sources supplying them that contain residual chlorine, according to a new study.

This Southern California City Is America’s Only Blue Zone for a Surprising Reason

In a time of countless additions to wellness routines and ‘the newest prebiotic gummy vitamins you just have to be taking’, it seems almost as if “wellness” has become increasingly less accessible. But a small city in Southern California redefines wellness to focus on some of its most simple tenets: nutrition, community, and perspective. The city, Loma Linda, has been dubbed a “Blue Zone.”
