“Anyone who thinks gardening begins in the spring and ends in the fall is missing the best part of the whole year; for gardening begins in January with a dream.”

2022 has begun and we couldn't be more excited to head into a brand new year, with the promise of bountiful crops and beautiful gardens. Bare-root season is right around the corner and the first of the spring flowering bulbs are starting to emerge. Buds that have formed on the winter blooming Daphne odora, Camellia sasanqua and Sarcococca are just beginning to open, soon to fill the greenhouses with intoxicating fragrance and adorable flowers. Don't forget the Lenten rose (Helleborus), which we will talk all about in next week's email!

We have been busy unpacking the cutest new shipment of pottery! Perfectly suited to go with our new shipment of houseplants which are looking so fabulous. Taking down your Christmas tree can leave quite a hole in your interior landscape. Why not fill it with a stunning new houseplant? With a perfect pot to match! We have pots with drainage holes, without drainage holes, with trays, without trays. In a rainbow of colors, sizes and degrees of shininess! Glazed, terracotta...I could go on....

There is some magic happening in our houseplant room right now! The beautiful Ficus triangularis (above left) and Alocasia 'Regal Shield' (right) are stopping everyone in their tracks. Double-take! Talk about showstoppers. We also received a couple of very statuesque Dracaenas that stand tall with attractive, unique trunks. They really would tie a room together, you know?

Happy New Year Little Sprouts and parents!

We’re so excited to start another year of planty projects with you and we think you’ll be excited too. For January we will be learning the basics for indoor plant care – including soil, light, and water requirements – and we’ll be making a mini terracotta houseplant planter! We’ve also decided to offer an in-person class option this month. When you call or stop by to sign up, please let us know if you’d prefer the in-person class or a take-home kit.

Both options will be available for January and February, and as we gather your feedback we’ll make a plan for in-person or take-home options for the rest of the year. Please let us know what works best for you. And for these first two months please remember to dress warmly for the in-person class as the greenhouse is a little chilly this time of year, even with the added heaters. See you soon, Sprouts!

Pre-registration is required.

Please call 541-753-6601 to reserve a spot today.

Cost is $10.00 per kit.
