Assembling Backpacks for the Homeless

Our Summer 2025 Service Project

Thanks to a recent Action Team Grant from Thrivent, we will be gathering the supplies necessary to assemble backpacks for the homeless and unhoused neighbors that come to Nina's Place.

Homelessness in Broward County continues to be an urgent issue, especially among seniors and families with children. We know of students in several Deerfield Beach schools who are sleeping in their cars or couch surfing among family and friends.

We are asking our families at Evergreen Academy and our members at Zion to bring items that can be included in these backpacks. All items need to be single use, pop-top, or pull-tab items. We do not assume that our homeless neighbors have can openers or cooking facilities.

Beginning this week, items can be dropped off in the box outside the Evergreen Academy Office or brought to worship on Sundays. This service project will run through Sunday, August 3rd. Thank you for your compassion and generosity!

Opportunities to Serve Joyfully & Give Selflessly

Worship at Zion: There's a place for you.

This Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

God is the source of our nourishment. Jesus’ invitation to “take and eat . . . take and drink” is a repeated one. In holy communion, in the word read and proclaimed, in the assembly of the people of God, the dominion of God has come near. Rejoice! Your name is written in heaven.
