BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY RESPONSE TO CORONAVIRUS
Join us March 13 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Blount Partnership (201 S. Washington St., Maryville) for a panel discussion of local business and community leaders on what the coronavirus is and how it will impact business operations, employees and the community. RSVP to alawson@blountpartnership.com

The following sectors will be represented: healthcare, travel and transportation, employment law and local businesses.    

Panelists will be asked to offer their viewpoint on the following topics:
 
  1. How do you expect the coronavirus outbreak to impact your business?
  2. What advice can you offer to businesses, employees and the community for preparing for the outbreak to escalate?
  3. What areas of preparation or response do you see being the weakest for our businesses, employees and the community?
  4. What steps can the community take to communicate most effectively as the outbreak escalates?
HIGHER EDUCATION UPDATE
Join us March 13 from 8-9:30 a.m. at the Blount Partnership (201 S. Washington St., Maryville) as we hear from College Presidents / Administrators from  Maryville College Pellissippi State Community College Tennessee College of Applied Technology Roane State Community College  and  Lindsey Wilson College  who will give an update on what is happening in our community at the post-secondary level.     

TARIFF ROUNDTABLE SET FOR MARCH 16
Please join us for a Manufacturers Roundtable moderated by Bob Booker of DENSO, on how tariffs have impacted your business on March 16 from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Blount Partnership (201 S. Washington St., Maryville).

We encourage all Blount County manufacturers, industrial park tenants or anyone affected by tariffs to attend.

NETWORKING: CREATING AND SUSTAINING RAPPORT
Join us March 12 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Blount Partnership (201 S. Washington St., Maryville) for a unique networking workshop that will show you how to create and sustain rapport.

  • You will learn how to show sincere interest without fear of being seen as nosy or pushy.
  • Develop the confidence to initiate new relationships and improve existing ones.
  • Gain greater understanding of what undermines rapport and sabotages results.
  • Become increasingly aware of the power you have to make a difference.

JOIN THE JOB FAIR
The Blount County Chamber of Commerce, working off its mission statement to promote economic growth, is hosting a job fair presented by Blackberry Farm, Pellissippi State Community College, Clayton Homes, the City of Maryville and Cirrus Aircraft on Tuesday, March 24 from 1-5 p.m. at Foothills Mall in Maryville. 
 
Any business or company interested in participating can reserve booth space which includes one eight-foot table, two chairs and table linens if needed. The fee, which includes lunch, is $150 for Blount Chamber members and $200 for non-members. Please complete the form .
 
Sponsorship for the event is also available .

Anyone looking for a job or wanting career development opportunities is invited to attend. The event is open to the public and there is no charge to attend. In addition to full and part-time positions, this job fair is designed for internships and service opportunities as well.

BLOUNT BROADCASTING SEEKS BASEBALL SPONSORS
Blount Broadcasting Corporation has been approached about broadcasting Maryville High School Baseball games this season. We are exploring whether there is enough interest and enough support to go forward with these broadcasts. We will need sponsors in order to put these games on WGAP and WKVL radio. We have the broadcast crew and the airwaves to make this happen but we need support from the community. If you are willing to sponsor the broadcast of these games please reply to johnnie@wkvl.com .

SIGN UP FOR COMMUNICATION SOFT SKILLS CLASS
It's Your Career! That's the focus of a free soft skills session offered in partnership by the Blount County Public Library, the Adult Education Foundation of Blount County and the Blount County Chamber of Commerce.

Registrations are currently being accepted online at www.blountchamber.com for a class entitled Improving Communication at Work on March 27. Effective communication is an essential component of professional success. Learn practical communication strategies that will help make you a better leader, improve productivity, and combat communication breakdowns.

All participants will earn .5 CEUs per session for participating. They will also receive an email survey two months after workshop participation to assess application of new ideas.

All classes are conducted in the Blount County Library's learning lab located at 508 N. Cusick in Maryville and limited to 50 participants. A complete class description is located on the registration site. All classes run from 8-10 a.m. with networking beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Topping the Billboard Hot 100 Chart this week in 1990 was "Escapade" by Janet Jackson. It spent three weeks in the No. 1 slot . The song was partially inspired by  Martha & the Vandellas 's 1965 song " Nowhere to Run.
