A few years ago, we had a precious family living next door. He was a minister at Christ Church, and they had two small children. Once when they were going on vacation, they asked me to feed their cat for a week. When I asked their daughter, Caroline, the name of the cat, she said, “Jesus."
"Jesus?” I asked.
Yep! So for a week, I called for Jesus to come in to eat. Can you just picture that? Needless to say, I was a little embarrassed going around the neighborhood trying to quietly call out for Jesus. No matter how loudly I called for him, he never came.
Even though this sounds rather humorous, isn’t it what we all do at times? We’re all inclined to just whisper His name or only call out to Him when we need Him or we’re hurting. But our Jesus…He is always waiting for us to talk to Him and also to listen for His voice. He will be there when we call Him, no matter what! What is Jesus saying to you? Are you listening? Is He calling you to serve, perhaps with the Women’s Ministry Board, the children, or maybe the youth? Justin has asked us to pray for where we might serve, our staff, and the vision for our church. Join me in praying for this and the place where God might be calling you.
By the way, when our neighbors got home, I told Christopher that I was a little embarrassed going around the neighborhood calling for Jesus. After he controlled his laughter, he told me the cat’s name was Socks.
Blessings in Christ,
