We're heading back to school: August Newsletter Inside!

WE HAD A GREAT TIME ON THE LAKE!

From tug-of-war and jumbo Jenga to face painting, games, and all the laughter in between — this day was full of joy, connection, and community love. To every mentor, mentee, and volunteer who showed up — thank you for making this day so special. All of this could not be possible without our amazing Big Day at the lake Committee. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

BIG OF THE MONTH:

BIG SISTER CALANDRA

Being a Big is such a rewarding experience. It’s almost hard to put into words. Since our first outing, I've seen Iyani grow more into herself as she has also grown closer to me. I don’t take a single outing for granted. This experience has given my life so much purpose. Iyani is my little bestie, and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

I enjoy the BBBS program because I get to impact the next generation and be a positive role model in my little's life! The program has allowed me to create a special bond with my little and I feel as though she is family now. I have grown as a person in the most positive way and creating a safe space for my little to evolve has been a priceless experience that l will cherish forever.

I believe our match works so well because I truly love the person Iyani is. I feel like I am honest, transparent and accommodating with my Little, and it allows her to unapologetically be herself! I expose her to new things while also being open to the things she likes and pivoting to partake in activities that can be fun for her, and allow me to get to know her better! Our match was truly a match made in heaven and I hope to continue growing our bond!

I hope to continue being as much of an influence in her life as she is in mind.

WORDS FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO!

Hope you are enjoying this hot, hot, hot summer. On July 19^th, we had our annual Big Day at The Lake event - celebrating 21 years! Thank you Dave and Tracy Yochum and the Lake Norman Community for all of the planning that goes into this special event. Although we did not go on the water, due to the algae problem, the picnic was a great! Live music, face painting, a magician, bouncy houses and lots of yummy food. We hope you will plan to be there next year.

Believe it or not, it's back to school time! Please check your email for back to school backpack pick up options and other helpful information to ensure your Little is prepared to enthusiastically go back into the classroom ready to learn. Hopefully, you can plan a pre school outing to have fun, and a back-to-school chat to inspire your Little the only way you – their mentor can. Encourage them to do their best, to ask for help when they need it, and remind them that their education is an important steppingstone to achieving their dreams. No matter what they want to do in life.

I hope you will enjoy the rest of your summer and thank you for all that you do to support your Little and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas agency.
