Register for the April 24 Statewide Advocacy Call

WE'RE IN THE HOME STRETCH

  • SEND THANK YOU LETTERS
  • ASK THE SENATE TO MEET THE HOUSE
  • THE APPLICATION PORTALS FOR DIVISION OF ARTS AND CULTURE & DIVISION OF HISTORICAL RESOURCES ARE OPEN
  • OUR GUEST FOR APRIL'S STATEWIDE CALL WILL BE PRESIDENT CEO OF WINTER PARK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, BETSY GARDNER ECKBERT

Dear Arts Advocates;

The appropriations recommendations remain the same as they were on March 28th. These numbers are a reflection of the incredible advocacy work that you have done.

We are in week 5 and at the point in the process where we:

  • say thank you to our Senators and Representatives for hearing us and for endorsing your work through these recommendations.
  • ask your Senators to encourage Senate leadership to meet the House Appropriations in conference
  • ask your Representatives to encourage House leadership to protect their appropriations recommendation (and should there be any additional funds in conference, consider raising funding to 100%)

Your Senators and Representatives can be found in this directory. You may also follow this link to the House's "find your representative" page and enter your address - you will be able to find them.

Senate Leadership is

Senator Kathleen Passidomo, (Dist 28), President of the Senate (has the last word)

Senator Dennis Baxley, (Dist 13), President Pro Tempore

Senator Doug Broxson (Dist 1), Chair of Appropriations (main negotiator in conference)

Senator Darryl E. Rouson (Dist 16), Vice chair of Appropriations

House Leadership is

Representative Paul Renner (Dist 19), Speaker of the House (has the last word)

Representative Chuck Clemons (Dist 22), Speaker Pro Tempore

Representative Tom Leek (Dist 28), Chair of Appropriations (main negotiator in conference)

Representative Lawrence McClure (Dist 68), Vice chair of Appropriations

It is my understanding that the legislature will begin their weekend early for upcoming observances. When they return, there will only be 3 weeks left where connecting will be of any consequence. Remember that Florida statute says there must be 72 hours (3 days) that the budget must "cool off" before it can be enrolled. Page 87 of our platform handbook contains the calendar and notes regarding timelines.
