First CSCA Meetings this Week
Watch your inbox for invitations to our first CSCA board meeting (all are welcome via Zoom) on Tue and our first in-person parents and guardians meeting on Thu. We'll send invitations with all the details ahead of each meeting, but mark your calendar now. CSCA meetings are the best way to connect with other parents and with staff and to learn what's happening at school.
| |
Thank You New CSCA Members!
Thank you so much to our new and renewing members. Your support is more important now than ever. If you expressed interest in volunteering, we'll be in touch shortly. And an additional thank you for giving your time.
| |
It's Not Too Late to Join
The last two years have taken a toll on our sense of community and overall involvement in the school. There's no doubt that high school is a time to step back from your kid(s) and let them start to fly on their own. But your involvement behind the scenes is as important as ever. We need families to show their support for small, choice schools by joining the CSCA. If you can also give your time, we'd love that too. Please take a moment to join now! If you would like help with dues, please contact member chair, Monica Payson.
| If you'd prefer to mail a check, download the membership form and mail to the address on the form. | |
Why Rejoin the CSCA?
If you joined the CSCA in previous years, please take a moment to rejoin. Our membership list does not roll over from one year to the next, and we won't know that you're still interested unless you log in and rejoin. Your membership helps us support our students and teachers and keep our unique school thriving. You can rejoin in minutes using our online system, MemberPlanet.
The system will prompt you to pay dues again. If you can pay again, your dues go to support our parent organizations that represent us at the city and state levels. But we also understand that dues can be stretch. Please contact member chair, Monica Payson, if you would like help with dues. We value your participation!
If you'd prefer to mail a check, download the membership form and mail to the address on the form.

Help Fill Ms Neel's Snack Box
Ms. Neel’s classroom snack box is almost empty! Help keep it stocked with nutritious foods for TCS students! Shop via the Amazon classroom wish list with requested snack boxes. Or deliver non Amazon donations directly to Ms. Neel in room 369. Please make sure they’re pre-packaged, single-serving, and healthy goodies. The snack box is located under Ms. Neel’s desk in room 369 and is open to all hungry students. No one should be learning on an empty belly. Thank you!

School Day PSAT & SAT
The school-day PSAT and SAT are coming up on Wed, Oct 12. The test will start at TCS at 9 am. Students will need to arrive at school and be in the at the commons 30 minutes prior to testing for preparation. We're still working on logistics for specific rooms because we don't know how many students will be testing. We will post final details when they are available.
If your junior or senior student has not already filled out the testing survey, please have them do so now. Survey results help us plan appropriately so that all students who want to test can do so.
Questions about testing? Contact Mr Rho at ewrho@seattleschools.org.

Skills Center in the 2022-23 School Year
We have classes in a wide range of career pathways at several locations around the city. Any high school student may take school year Skills Center courses, however these courses tend to fit more easily into the schedules of 11th and 12th grade students.
- Classes run 2.5 hours, Monday through Friday (early dismissal on Wednesday).
- Students earn three high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) credits.
- Some courses offer chances to earn math, science, fine arts, or English high school credit, dual college credit, and industry certifications.
- Some courses may lead to opportunities for internships, pre-apprenticeships, and apprenticeships.
- Students may take a Skills Center course at any location, regardless of the high school they attend.
- Transportation is provided to and from Skills Center courses from a student’s home school during the school year.
Sign up online and talk to your school counselor to make sure the class fits your schedule.
Please let us know if you have questions about Skills Center classes. Email skillscenterinfo@seattleschools.org with questions, and follow us on Twitter @SPSSkillsCenter for updates and photos.

College & Finanacial Aid Information Meeting for Families
It's never too early to start thinking about college. Ninth and tenth grade families can get a head start on their post high school planning. Eleventh and twelfth grade families, every minute between now and graduation counts. And TCS is here to help your student with this exciting process.
Join us Wed, Sep 28 at 7 pm via Zoom for an information session about college and financial aid planning. Renowned local college choice authority Teri Thompson, test prep expert Greg Smith, and local college aid consultant and radio host Albert Israel CFP, will be the speakers at this free virtual informational workshop addressing college financial aid, how that aid is assigned to individual families, how that aid can sometimes be increased, what role test prep plays in these times, and how to pick the right college for your student to hopefully avoid the fifth year.
The workshop is designed for parents of college bound high school students. All speakers are Seattle based, and there is no cost or obligation to those who attend. Advance registration is appreciated.

JazzED Mentors in Training
As Mentors in Training, high school students are invited to start earning service-learning hours as a mentor for beginning students in our Foundations program (grades 4-8). As a part of this program, you will learn music teaching techniques directly from our expert JazzED educators, get support in creating your own lesson plans, and continue to build your leadership skills as a professional musician. Participation in this class will include a weekly team meeting (Wed 6–7:30 pm via Zoom) in addition to supporting students in either virtual online sectional and/or in-person ensemble-style learning spaces 1-2 days/week.
Please note, because our instrument sectionals take place Mon, Tue, and Thu, your weekly schedule will be dependent on the instrument you play. In addition, participation in the weekly team meetings will only be required during the fall quarter (Oct–Dec) and count towards your total service hours. After completing the fall course, you will be a full-time mentor able to earn service-learning hours with Seattle JazzED using a schedule that works for you!
Class begins Wed, Oct 5. To register for free, contact programs@seattlejazzed.org with your name, contact info, and instrument played.
