Redwood City Public Library eNews

APRIL 14, 2020
A NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR
Dear community,

I hope that you are all healthy and safe as we continue to shelter in place. As we shift to virtual library service, staff has continued to support our customers by phone, by email, through social media, and online. We will continue to do so with the sincere goal that you remain educated and entertained through this crisis.

The San Mateo County Health Officer Order calls for our County to continue to remain in our homes for all but the essential needs until May 3, 2020. Since we won't know whether this order will be extended, or the extent of the limitations that will be placed on public spaces, the library will be cancelling all public programs and meeting room reservations through the end of May.

We aim to continue to provide library service, and are happy to bring you the following online programs:

Online Stories and Play with RCPL Librarians: Wednesday and Friday prerecorded storytimes

Cuentos en Casa : Monday morning prerecorded stories in Spanish

Libros y Café - Club de lectura en español : Spanish book club for adults

Book Club for Kids : Zoom book club for kids grades 3-5

Community Memory Project: Share your story! Submit your shelter in place memories for our local history project

In addition to these programs we continue to be here for you by phone (650-780-7018) and by email
(rclinfo@redwoodcity.org). Our staff is busy reaching out to the businesses of Redwood City, putting them in touch with the City of Redwood City's COVID-19 Business Resources. O ur Spanish speaking staff are assisting the Fair Oaks Community Center call center , providing essential human services, including rental assistance, emergency food, homeless support services, safety net information and referral services. Should you or someone you know require assistance, you can reach the call center at 650-780-7500.

Last but not least, our virtual library is as robust as ever with eBooks, eAudiobooks, streaming movies and music, homework help, eMagazines, research resources and more. Visit our website to get started. You'll need a library card, but if you don't have one, our eCards will get you access to online resources for 90 days.

We welcome your ideas, questions, and need for connection, so please feel free to reach out to us.

Stay well,
Derek Wolfgram
Library Director
WHAT'S NEW
COMMUNITY MEMORY PROJECT
Redwood City Public Library celebrates stories in their myriad formats - books, audiobooks, visual records, oral histories, and more. Help us capture a snapshot of what life was like in Redwood City during the COVID-19 pandemic. RCPL and the Local History Archive Room are collecting resident reflections for a Community Memory Project.  All ages are welcome to participate and there are many ways to get involved: write a diary entry, create a zine, send a photo, or answer a simple web survey.  Share your finished projects with rcplmemory@redwoodcity.org, or in-person when the library reopens.
