A NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR
|
|
Dear Community,
It goes without saying that we miss our active libraries full of your friendly faces. While we have been sheltering in place, our staff have been busy bringing you the
(virtual) services that we know you value.
Stories continue five days a week. Our
book and reading clubs reach kids, adults, and Spanish speakers. Entertainment programs like
Happy Birds and our
Live and Aloud series offer respite and touch of fun.
Little Learners has been a smashing success, giving you all something hands on to bring home to your little ones. Another way we've come up with to connect with you is our
Community Memory Project - if you haven't yet, please forllow the link and take a moment to tell us what this historic moment in time looks like for you (and those you shelter with).
We value connecting with you and offering you the programs you love in this new way. And we also want to hear from YOU. How are you doing and is there any type of library service that you want to see from us? Below are several ways you can express your opinion about City services.
The
City of Redwood City will begin hosting Virtual Town Hall meetings to discuss pertinent topics to you, your neighbors, local businesses, and more. To determine the issues that are on your minds, staff developed a quick survey to get feedback on what you want discussed. Please take a minute and let us know what you want to talk about by answering this one-question survey
here. I encourage you to give feedback on City services, including what you want from your library. Your voice means everything to us, so make it heard!
The Library is developing a way to gather feedback, but in the meantime, you can drop me an
email to let me know what your needs, dreams, questions and concerns are. We are here for you and we want to hear from you.
Stay well,
Derek Wolfgram

SERVICES FOR VETERANS
Redwood City Public Library offers support to veterans in our community through library resources, services and programs. Check out our Veterans Connect @ the Library page to learn more
here.
We are happy to announce that we have a new service for veterans!
VetNow is an online resource that supports the needs of both veterans AND their families. You can get LIVE help from 1pm to 10pm, 7 days a week, with topics like:
- Navigating VA benefits--for yourself OR a family member
- Employment transition assistance--specially tailored to veterans' unique career paths
- Tutoring for academic subjects--connect with a tutor in real time
Access to VetNow is made possible by
Veterans Connect @ the Library, a grant-funded program that helps veterans and their families to learn about state and federal education, employment, housing, health, disability and other benefits that may be available to them. If you have questions or would like to share your experiences using VetNow, please contact Fiona Potter at fpotter@redwoodcity.org or 650-780-7056.
Our staff also put together a list of downloadable eBooks, eAudiobooks and films for and by veterans. These include movies like Platoon, books about coping with PTSD, and links to websites such as CalVet, California's Division of Veterans Services.
