Brighter Days Ahead . . .
|
So many of us have been challenged this past few months to live differently (sometimes with much less), to learn differently (with no lead-time to prepare), and to stay connected with our colleagues, family and friends. However, we've seen you rise to meet these challenges with generosity, creativity and love. At The Georgetown Project, we are proud to serve in a community so willing to join hands with us to meet the needs of children and families. As we are beginning to see some loosening of social restrictions for Covid-19 (albeit, changing daily), know that we are continuing our work to provide rich and meaningful programs for you and the children we serve.

Well, almost . . .
June 20th is the first day of summer and we've packed this newsletter with sizzling ideas about making the most of these sunny days with kiddos whether you're up close or six feet apart!

Start by Painting Your Own Flower Pots!
|
|
Terra cotta pots are a garden mainstay. But if you want to add a little zing to your garden (or your front porch or wherever) and encourage creativity in your kiddos,
paint your own pots!
It's super easy and fun for kids of all ages!

Developmental Asset #32
for children in grades K-3 (Search Institute):
Planning and Decision Making
—Parent(s) help child think through and plan school and play activities.
This flower painting project is a great way to give kids the opportunity to plan what kind of pot, paint color and design they'd like to make.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Month!
Tell a Teen
!
|
|
Teens gain a sense of independence and responsibility when they can create and care for something of their own. Try carving out a patch of space (or use containers) for your teen and watch their sense of pride and accomplishment when they harvest fresh food for the family!

Have a cow you'd like to trade
for some magic beans?
|
|
Climbing beans are a snap to grow! Find a sunny spot to sow beans in the ground or in a pot and watch them climb quickly.
You'll need a packet of beans (Kentucky Wonder Beans are easy and grow fast), potting soil if using a pot and three stakes to support the clinging vines as they grow upward.
