Westchase District in 2025: Building Community and Connection with Vibrancy

2025 was a year of strong momentum for Westchase District, marked by new destinations, celebrated local businesses, and continued investment in the spaces and services that support everyday life across the district.

“The past year was meaningful for Westchase District - one that reflected years of planning coming to life,” said Irma Sanchez, Westchase District’s President and CEO. “From new parks and dining destinations to continued investment in safety and public spaces, we’re proud to see the district evolve in ways that truly serve the people who live, work, and spend time here.”

One of the year’s most anticipated milestones was the opening of Camden Park in April 2025. More than a decade in the making, the park quickly became a community gathering place, offering walking trails, play areas, open lawns, and space for recreation and events. The opening of Sunday Press at Camden Park further activated the space, giving visitors a welcoming spot for coffee, breakfast, and casual dining.

Dining Scene Shines

Westchase District’s dining scene also earned recognition throughout the year. In August 2025, the Best of Westchase awards highlighted locally loved restaurants that help define the district’s food culture. Favorites such as Mad Dogs, El Tiempo Cantina, Saldivia’s South American Grill, Becks Prime, and Black Rock Coffee Bar were among those recognized. Additional food features throughout 2025 spotlighted popular concepts like Main Bird Hot Chicken, underscoring the variety and energy of Westchase’s dining options.

New retail and experiential offerings also joined the district in 2025.
WeGotSoccer opened its Westchase location in May 2025, bringing an elevated experience for soccer enthusiasts with a curated selection of gear, apparel, and collectibles for fans of major leagues and international teams.

Stewardship of Shared Spaces

Throughout the year, these new destinations and celebrated businesses were supported by Westchase District’s continued focus on the fundamentals that make growth sustainable. Ongoing investments in maintenance, lighting, trails, and public spaces helped ensure that parks, retail areas, and gathering places remained clean, safe, and welcoming, while continued collaboration around public safety and community well-being reinforced everyday quality of life.

As Westchase marked its 30th anniversary in 2025, the year served as a reflection of how thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and community-driven investment come together to support a district that continues to evolve and thrive.

Construction Leader Guy Cook Takes Helm as Westchase District's New Board Chair

Westchase District is proud to welcome Guy Cook as Chairman of the District's Board of Directors, bringing decades of construction leadership and a deep commitment to Houston’s growth and success.

Cook succeeds Harry Greenblatt who served as Board chair since 2019. Cook is Executive Vice President and Managing Partner at Harvey Cleary, where he has helped lead some of the region’s most complex and impactful commercial construction projects.

Cook discovered his passion for construction through a high school drafting course and has built his career at Harvey Cleary delivering grocery-anchored retail, high-rise, luxury multifamily, and senior living projects. Cook serves on the firm’s corporate safety and training committees, where he helps establish best practices and advance the development of teams across the company
. Beyond the jobsite, he is a strong advocate for community involvement and thoughtful development, principles central to Westchase District’s mission to provide a well-managed, amenity-rich environment where businesses and people can put down roots and thrive.

We sat down with Chairman Cook and asked him a few questions:

What is your top priority for Westchase District?

To continue to promote and improve the Westchase area through beautification and safety as established by the staff of the Westchase District and the leaders before me. I consider this an honor to help lead these efforts and make the Westchase District stronger every year. We want to continue to lead the Houston management districts in beautification and safety, like no other.

Did Former Board Chair Harry Greenblatt share any advice?

I fully agree with Harry that the District is an exceptionally well-run organization that makes the Westchase area the strongest of all the management districts. This is not by chance, but hard work and dedication by the staff and everyone in the District to be the best we can be.

Tell us something people don't know about you

I am a die-hard Texas A&M Aggie who grew up on a ranch north of Dallas, which instilled a strong work ethic yet taught me to be humble and compassionate. I continue to raise roping horses in my spare time and enjoy the ranching lifestyle with my beautiful wife of 31 years.

Where Coffee, Lunch, and the Park Come Together

Looking for a spot that works for families and professionals alike? Sunday Press at Camden Park offers a refreshing alternative to crowded cafés and busy lunch spots. Parents can enjoy coffee, breakfast, or brunch while kids explore the open green space and play areas just steps away, all within a relaxed, welcoming park setting.

A Quieter Place to Take a Break, Unwind
For nearby office workers, Sunday Press is also an ideal midday escape — a place to step outside, enjoy a calm lunch, and recharge away from the usual hustle. With shaded seating, open lawns, and room to breathe, it’s a setting designed for slowing down, whether you’re meeting a colleague, enjoying a solo break, or taking a well-earned pause during the workday.

Simple, Stress-Free Parking
Sunday Press is easy to reach from surrounding neighborhoods and nearby offices. If parking inside the park is full, convenient overflow parking is available at the
Robinson-Westchase Library. A short, comfortable walk across the pedestrian bridge makes the arrival part of the experience, an easy calming transition into the park before you even sit down to eat.

From morning coffee runs to lunchtime breaks and weekend brunch, Sunday Press at Camden Park brings food, green space, and everyday moments together in one inviting place.

Advancing Safer, More Connected Streets

Westchase District is partnering with Harris County Precinct 4 on two key infrastructure projects as part of Commissioner Lesley Briones’ 2025 Places 4 People initiative, an effort investing nearly $34 million across Southwest Houston to improve safety, mobility, and resilience.

In Westchase, the initiative will fund the reconstruction of Hayes Road and Wallingford Drive, two corridors that frequently experience drainage issues and aging infrastructure. The projects will upgrade roadways, drainage systems, sidewalks, and pedestrian facilities, improving access for residents, students, seniors, and first responders.

Hayes Road connects Westheimer Road and Richmond Avenue and serves Houston City College - Alief Hayes Campus and nearby multifamily communities. Wallingford Drive improvements will enhance access to Westheimer and strengthen long-term neighborhood resilience.

“This investment reflects what’s possible when strong partnerships come together around a shared vision,” said Irma Sanchez, President and CEO of Westchase District. “By fully reconstructing Hayes Road and Wallingford Drive - with new utilities, sidewalks, and drainage - we’re delivering safer, more reliable access for students, families, and residents.” In addition to Sanchez and Briones, numerous leaders including City of Houston Mayor John Whitmire, Alief ISD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays, and Council Member Tiffany Thomas, and Houston Parks Board CEO Justin Schultz spoke about the investment's transformative community impact.
