Dear Bill,

As I write this letter, my soul aches for the tragedy that has unfolded in Israel, a nation under siege and in the throes of extreme adversity. I speak on behalf of School News Nationwide/ and Tour for Tolerance, a platform promoting understanding and peace. It is difficult to find words that adequately convey our sorrow for the loss of innocent lives and the unfathomable suffering endured by thousands.

In a brutal war, the extremist group Hamas has invaded Israel, spreading terror and violence into the fabric of civilian life. The reports are staggering: 800 Israelis lost to this conflict, more than 2,000 grievously wounded, and dozens more missing and feared kidnapped, held hostage in Gaza. Each number represents a life cut short or forever changed, a family broken, and a community in mourning.

The terrorism, the targeted assault on civilians, and the calculated fomenting of violence and instability are unacceptable. The sanctity of human life should be a universal principle that transcends borders and politics. Therefore, I implore you to stand with Israel during this catastrophic time, as they would have stood with us in our times of need.

Support can take many forms—speaking up against disinformation, donating to humanitarian causes that provide immediate relief to the affected, or simply keeping the people of Israel in your thoughts and prayers. Silence and indifference are the allies of injustice; we cannot afford to be silent now.

In the wake of tragedy, the strength and resilience of the human spirit are tested. Let us answer that test by showing our unwavering support for those enduring unimaginable suffering. Let us be the beacon of compassion, understanding, and justice that we strive to be as individuals and as a nation.
