Immerse yourself in the real life narratives of some of the people served by this fund:
- Consider the challenges of a young adult recovering from brain surgery, determined to return to work in the future but currently lacking income. They face the daunting arrival of winter and the inability to afford heating costs.
- Imagine a single mother, devoted to her children with disabilities, unable to resume work until she secures the essential supportive services. She also grapples with an overdue heating bill.
- Picture being a single father raising three children, urgently seeking help to move away from an apartment contaminated with lead.

Mission Moment - Bashir's Critical TPS Story
LUM Immigration Clinic - Successful Intervention
Temporary Protected Status stands as a crucial lifeline for individuals from nations grappling with crises, shielding them from the perils of deportation. The LUM Immigration Clinic has been at the forefront of providing assistance to refugees from conflict-ridden regions like Ukraine and Afghanistan, ensuring access to TPS for those in dire need. In the past two years, 15 individuals were able to get TPS with the help from the LUM Immigration Clinic.
One beneficiary is Bashir, an Afghan doctoral student pursuing studies at Purdue University. Threatened with deportation due to an impending passport expiration, Bashir found himself in a precarious situation compounded by the absence of a functioning Afghan embassy in the US. However, through the innovative efforts of the LUM Immigration Clinic, an agreement was brokered with the Afghan consulate in Toronto, facilitating passport renewal for Bashir. This pivotal intervention not only preserved Bashir's legal status in the US but also provided him with the vital protection of Temporary Protected Status, offering a bit of hope amid the uncertainties of a turbulent world.
