We are Celebrating 20 Years of Service

you_.png

We're extremely excited to once again get together with the C-STEM family in person for the 10th Annual State of STEM Education Stakeholders Breakfast on Friday, June 10th. This is our biggest fundraiser each year, and we have set ambitious goals for expanding our reach to greater heights. Thank you in advance for helping us reach those goals.

Please show your support by joining us. Sponsorships and individual tickets are still available. Register for the event here.

The event will be held from 7:30 - 9 a.m. at The Junior League of Houston. Join us as we honor Terry and Joycelyn Williams with the STEMing the Tide Award and Dr. Kelly Coleman with the C-STEM Ambassador Award.

The Stakeholder Breakfast brings together P-12 schools, higher education, professional organizations, corporations, and public servant leaders to receive updates on C-STEM’s community impact and the current state of STEM education.

Let's get together and discuss how we can change lives through STEM education for underserved and underrepresented students. Thank you for your continued support -- you are the voice for those who may feel voiceless.

Increasing Access to Advanced STEM Courses for Black and Latino Students

Written by: Reagan Flowers, Ph.D.

This time of year is always an exciting one. My team and I get to celebrate the achievements of our STEM students as they graduate and move on to the next steps in their paths. However, as we celebrate these inspiring grads, we also continue to look forward proactively to those who will graduate in the coming years. Unfortunately, one of the problems we're still seeing is the denial of Black and Latino students' access to advanced STEM courses. This month, I'm addressing why this is happening, why it's unacceptable and what we can do to generate change.  Keep Reading

Flowers Keynotes Graduation Banquet

C-STEM Founder and President Dr. Reagan Flowers served as the keynote speaker at the Sheldon ISD/C.E King High School STEM Class of 2022 Banquet. She shared some inspiring advice, offering 10 things for all graduating seniors to remember:

"1. Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.

2. The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of the world but those who fight and win battles that others do not know anything about.

3. Your current conditions do not reflect your ultimate potential.

4. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past will miss much of what the future holds.

5. Those who settle for crumbs will never understand the mindset of those who want the whole cake.

6. In life, you will have challenges, missteps, fall short, win some and loose some. It is important that you remember that even broken crayons still color!

7. Always aim to finish what you start. It always seems impossible until its done.

8. Teamwork divides your tasks and multiplies the success.

9. True friends are like diamonds, precious and rare. False friends are like leaves, they are found everywhere.

10. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for the people you love is to respect their decisions in life and to carry on with your life without regrets.”

Congratulations to all our graduating seniors!

See How C-STEM Celebrates Turtles

We were excited to celebrate World Turtle Day on Monday, May 23. The sea turtle is dear to us here at C-STEM, and you’ll often see it in student projects. It was also a big part of our Free Little Library Art Project. The day was created as a yearly observance to help people celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world. Check out the collage of student projects over the past years related to sea turtles. Stay tuned for "World Sea Turtle Day" on June 16th and join us on the C-STEM Facebook page and Instagram to join in the fun!

C-STEM Reinstates Trademark Designation

We're proud to announce that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has officially approved reinstatement of "C-STEM Teacher & Student Support Services" as a registered trademark. Thank you to C-STEM Chairman Ahmad Shaheed for your diligent efforts in spearheading this effort. We also could not have made this happen without the work of attorney Danyahel "Danny" Norris, who also serves on the Board for the Harris County Department of Education. Thank you both for your commitment to STEM education and C-STEM's work!
