Pastor Trudy's Message
Remembering the saints. It isn't usually big, dramatic things that we remember at the memorial services and funerals we have. Most of us won't do anything close to what Elijah is called to do in sharing God's message with a king! But in our story for this weekend, the king does not take the center role. A widow who is out of flour and oil does, as she continues to feed both Elijah and her son throughout the time of drought. She is a story of total faith that God would provide. Those are the stories that we tell when we remember our saints. How they quietly showed faith through difficult times.

God of mercy and love, we thank you for the witness of the saints in showing us what faithfulness looks like, not only in dramatic times, but in the quiet struggles of our lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WONDERING...
REAL QUESTIONS FROM REAL PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GLC
How should my faith influence my political beliefs? It is always interesting to talk about Christians as a voting block. I think we are all aware that within our congregation (and by extrapolation within others), that as many Christians as there are, there are that many political opinions among them. There is not just one way to be faithful nor is there one way to faithfully look at issues. When I look at official platforms and positions of candidates with Scripture in mind, finding a single party or candidate that supports what we see in our Gospel call is not possible! Our citizenship, Paul writes, is in heaven. Everything we have, including our US citizenship, is a tool to honor that heavenly citizenship which defies parties, candidates, and platforms. At the heart of the call is a requirement that we see people that others don't. If you've been paying any attention to the political conversation over the past many years, you will hear the voices of many who feel unheard.  If we're doing it well, it will make us uncomfortable sometimes, challenge us other times and make us feel closer to Christ with each conversation.
Surrounding Election Day in Prayer
