Federal Judge Strikes Down Indiana Elections Law Restricting Voter Access to Courts

A 2019 law prohibited Hoosiers from directly petitioning the courts to extend voting hours at polling places where issues arose. Instead, voters had to track down and convince all three to five county election board members to petition the courts on their behalf. The Southern District court of Indiana concluded this was unconstitutional. The ruling marks the second time in recent weeks that Indiana election practices were by overturned by federal judges.
