Ready, set go! Take an important survey May 2nd.

CRCSD values your feedback! This May 2nd, we will be asking you to take a brief survey to tell us about your experience with the Cedar Rapids Community School District. To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. We want to know what you think.

The survey will begin on May 2 and close on May 20. You will be able to take the survey online at home, or when you come to your school’s parent-teacher conferences. More information to come!

National Champions!

The Jefferson Academic Decathlon Team is the 2022 Division II National Champion. This occurred after winning the state competition for the 22nd consecutive year. Oh, and they were first in the nation for the “Super Quiz” component of the competition!

The decathlon team is tested and judged in ten different categories including speeches, essays, interviews, science, literature and math. Kevin Darrow, a language arts teacher at Jefferson, is the team’s coach.

All this accomplishment deserved a celebration - and Jefferson showed the love with a parade. Take a look at the video . . . we think it will make you smile.

Metro STEAM Academy students develop their "green thumbs"

Students at the Metro STEAM Academy have been busy developing their “green thumbs” this spring by working on two projects.

The first project is the Feed Iowa First seedlings. These seed starts will be planted out in community gardens around the city. Produce collected will go to families needing fresh produce via Feed Iowa First’s distribution system.

The second project dealing with seeds involves growing plant starts to be sold at the NewBo City Market during their new Farmers at the Market events this May. The plant starts are being grown in recycled CRCSD milk cartons collected by Metro from Erskine Elementary School, and Cedar River Academy cafeterias.
