CoHousing Solutions was busy in 2022

1. January: Launching a 20-30 unit cohousing community in Winnepeg, MB didn't work out, so Katie encouraged one client to pursue Prairie Rivers Coliving and buy a 5,400 sqft house to share with seven people! Another way to do community. Not to mention, Katie began hosting Mission Peak Village's four-part Kick-Off Workshop.

2. February: Rice University's Kinder Institute for Urban Research interviewed our president, Katie McCamant, on her work with CoHousing Houston and their developer (who happens to be a 500 Communities Program Affiliate), David Kelley. Plus, yours truly (Erin Harris) joined the CoHousing Solutions team!

3. March: Helped Mission Peak Village with their common house design programming.

4. April: Hosted the Northern California Cohousing Open House, alongside the CohoUS National Open House.

5. May: Katie presented the Burns Village & Farm's Kick-Off Workshop.

6. June: Washington Commons Cohousing began construction!

7. July: Katie spoke to the UC Berkeley Graduate Real Estate Development Program students about cohousing real estate development

8. August: We went to the 2022 National Cohousing Conference with CohoUS! In Madison, WI, Katie hosted "The Cohousing Development Process: Lessons from 30 Years in the Trenches" intensive, and the 500 Communities Program Affiliate Retreat.

9. September: The 2021-2022 500 Communities Program class graduated! Mission Peak Village hosted their Big Design Reveal to show off their design, as submitted to the City of Fremont Planning Department.

10. October: Katie hosted a workshop with Mosaic Village in Calgary and enjoyed their first snow of the season, while Skagit Commons began to move into their homes. CoHousing Houston also began construction!

11. November: Wolf Creek Lodge celebrated their 10th Anniversary as a community and we were invited! River Song Cohousing, our longest-running client, got Certificates of Occupancy and head towards move-in.

12. December: We resubmitted Mission Peak Village's design plans to the Planning Department (Round 2) with responses to staff comments. We also redesigned several client websites.

Join us for a 500 Communities

Program Introductory Webinar

Zoom: January 9 at 4:00pm PST

Have you thought about getting more involved with cohousing? We don't just mean forming a group and living in community, we mean within your line of work. Maybe you're interested in sustainable community design. Maybe you're thinking about bringing cohousing into your real estate repertoire. Maybe you're pondering what it would be like to be a project manager for developing communities, or how you can help facilitate more communities in your area. Perhaps you are passionate about community and want to grow the market.

The 500 Communities Program is a 12-month course designed to train collaborators to meet the expanding need for professional support in creating new communities. The Program applies to many different job fields and was designed with all means on collaborative development in mind. Its intention is not to teach one model of cohousing, but build on lessons learned as we explore models of collaborative development that were not taught in university of trade school.

CoHousing Solutions is currently recruiting for the next 500 Communities Program Class in 2023! Consider joining Katie McCamant (coauthor of THE cohousing book) for our 500 Communities Program Introduction Webinar with the Cohousing Association of the United States on January 9. You will learn more about cohousing, Katie's background, and the 500 Communities Program basics!

Over the course of our application process, we host a series of Introduction Webinars and Follow-up Webinars before applications close on June 15. Once you have attended an Introduction Webinar we invite you to join us for a Follow-up Webinar, where Katie hosts a more candid conversation about the Program, answers questions, and gets to know prospective applicants.
