Pentecost Prayer

"You are God of all Creation, of all time and space, and yet somehow, you are here with us. You are here with us, just like you were there with Peter and the early church on that Pentecost day. There might not be tongues of fire and a howling wind, but we wonder, nonetheless, if this room caught fire with your Spirit, would we be afraid, or would we have the strength to remember Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace? Would we remember the way you saved them, and the way you keep saving us? And if this room caught fire with your Spirit, would we tremble, or would we dance, overcome by your presence in our lives?"

Fire Colors for Pentecost

Pentecost is this Sunday! Pentecost marks 50 days after Easter Sunday and is the day in which we celebrate the arrival of the Holy Spirit, represented by tongues of fire. To honor Pentecost, please wear red, orange, and/or yellow to church on Sunday. This will also be the last time Ashley Brown will preach for us as our Pastoral Resident before she leaves New Orleans next month. See announcements below!

Please note that Sunday School will not meet this Sunday.

The church office will be closed on Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day.

A Letter from Ashley Brown

Dear St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian,

I am writing to share the good news with you first that I have accepted an Associate Pastor call that begins in September. I am absolutely thrilled with this new call and with the opportunities in ministry it will provide and the kind and loving community which I soon will serve. Presbyterian polity does not allow me to publicly announce where I will be going until after my new congregation holds a congregational vote. As soon as that happens, you will be the first to know in The Quatrefoil, I promise. I will be taking a three-month sabbatical, moving temporarily to Montreat, North Carolina working in the Development Office and learning philanthropic fundraising. I hope to see any of you who find themselves in Montreat this summer. Please drop by the Development Office to give me a hug, or let’s meet up!

You have provided me truly with the happiest three years of my life. When I came to St. Charles three years ago after graduating seminary I was struggling my way through the ordination process. Chris Currie advocated for me, challenged me, and encouraged me that first year to not give up, and being ordained on Pentecost in our Sanctuary truly was a moment I will cherish forever.

We will be celebrating Ashley and her three outstanding years of service as our Pastoral Resident on May 31 following 9:30 worship in Frampton Fellowship Hall!
