Luke 14:25-33 (KJV)
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

And YES, I AM a lousy shot. I just fired a dozen or so shots of 22 Long Rifle rounds at FOUR armadillos and they did not even flinch!!!
O well, there's always tomorrow..............
And that has absolutely nothing to do with today's sermon.
IF YOU WANNA' WEAR THE CROWN THEN YOU GOTTA' BEAR THE CROSS!!!!
I find it very interesting that very few preachers preach on what the Lord had in store for the Apostle Paul:
Acts 9:16 (KJV)
16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
Another Scripture RARELY preached today is:
Philippians 3:10 (KJV)
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
It seems WE Christians LIKE and want to possess the “know Him, and the POWER of His Resurrection” but....................................................................
WE don't desire or like the “FELLOWSHIP OF HIS SUFFERINGS” nor do we want to be “MADE CONFORMABLE UNTO HIS DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Can I at least get ONE amen???????????????????????
Lately I hear a lot about FREE STUFF!! EVERYBODY LIKES FREE STUFF!!
In fact, my dear Mama taught me years ago,
“IF SOMETHING IS FREE, TAKE TWO!!”
We vote for the politician that promises “a chicken in every pot,” FREE health care and food, Unemployment benefits, and I totally get it-EVERYBODY LIKES FREE STUFF!
Our flesh desires to hear only “prosperity preachers” and positive and uplifting MOTIVATIONAL sermons.
My dear son reminded me today of this true axiom:
SALVATION IS FREE BUT DISCILLESHIP WILL COST YOU EVERYTHING!!!!!!
I too wish there was a NO COST DIET!!! One where you could any and everything and live to be a hundred years old with NO health problems!
I wish there WAS a sure fire, get rich instantly program and key to a happy marriage!!!
If you know one, please do not tell me but SHOW me in YOUR life

In closing, I went shopping at my local Publix a while ago and as I was leaving I heard the beautiful strain of a violin.
As I walked to me car, I turned around and noticed a young girl performing outside in the heat of the day, her dear mother holding a large with cardboard sign asking for help.
You know me!! I LOVE music and musicians and I HAD TO listen and give.
For those non-musicians, the violin is a very difficult instrument to learn, much less master skillfully.
There are no frets on the neck to mark notes and it is played with a bow on four strings.
And YES, this 16 year old immigrant MAY HAVE been blessed with God-given natural talent, but trust me, she still had to W-O-R-K to play as well as she did.
As dear old Ringo wailed years ago:
“IF YA WANNA PLAY THE BLUES THEN YA GOTTA PAY THE DUES.............
AND YA KNOW, IT DON'T COME EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Beloved, there IS a COST of being a disciple/follower of Christ!
