During the month of February, we will honor and recognize our culture in celebration of Black History Month.

On the First, Third, and Fourth Sundays in February, you are encouraged to wear African attire to the worship service.

On the Second Sunday, we will celebrate HBCUs and Greek organizations. Please wear attire or colors representing your HBCU or your favorite HBCU, your own university, or your Greek organization.

While we highlight these traditions in February, our history and culture are celebrated 365 days a year.

The Evelyn Lowery SCLC Women's

Civil Rights Heritage Tour

I'm writing to invite you to attend the SCLC WOMEN's Civil Rights Heritage Tour, March 7th - 8th

I attend this tour annually to help promote voting rights and to educate people on how our right to vote was won and how critical it is. I will be one of the guides on the bus again this year. One of my favorite things about this tour is the unique access we get with SCLC WOMEN and many first person accounts at the places we visit.

I'd love it if you'd join me on this tour.

We'd leave early on Sat, March 7th on buses that will include a Fulton County Police escort for the entire journey.

The itinerary includes stops in:

  • Depart from Atlanta around 6am on Sat, March 7
  • Birmingham (16th Street Baptist Church, Kelly Ingram Park, Birmingham Civil Rights Museum)
  • Perry County (Coretta Scott King's birth home, family church, and family cemetery) several civil rights leaders are from Perry County including, Coretta Scott King, Jean Child Young
  • Andrew Young's first pastoral assignment, etc.)
  • Marion (Jail where James Orange was held and where concentrated voter registration efforts were staged, where Jimmy Lee Jackson was shot by police before dying days later in Selma)
  • Montgomery (SPLC Headquarters outside fountain, Dexter Ave Baptist, Alabama State monument to Rosa Parks, etc.)
  • White Hall (Interpretation Center, grave and monument to Mrs. Viola Liuzzo)
  • Selma (The bridge still named for the Grand Wizard of the KKK where many leaders were viciously beaten, etc.)
  • We will return to Atlanta on Sunday, March 8th around 9pm.

This is a life changing tour. Please join me and invite others you feel will benefit from this. It is perfect for new voters (teens who will be 18 by the general election in November this year) and for others who need to learn this history.

Let me know ASAP if you're interested so I can share your name with the organization. I need a solid response by February 14th. I look forward to hearing a positive response from you.
