"Rebirth, Resurrection, Resistance"
with Rev. Karen Armina
| | |
Spring is a time of awakening, and of celebrating our ability to do so. This Easter morning, we’ll explore the many awakenings happening within, between, and around us. Link to service webpage
| |
Rev. Karen shared wisdom and inspiration from Trisha Hersey and adrienne maree brown during the April 2 service. Please visit our worship archive page for links to continue your exploration of their work on rest and pleasure as resistance.
The Share-the-Plate recipient for April 2 and 9 is Urban Triage. With the help of member Ed Kuharski, they are transforming the Madison Youth Hostel into the Inspired House, which will provide housing for young adults, especially those with children, who are experiencing homelessness.
Our April Theme: The Path of Resistance
Our April theme invites us to notice and act on the disparities between society’s messages and what we know to be true. In this space, you’ll find a new invitation into reflection on our monthly theme every week.
Check-in question: In today’s world, what do you feel called to resist?
The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.
-- Albert Camus

Minister's Musings
What do you know to be true? How does what you know square with the daily messaging you consume?
These questions are what come to mind for me when I think about this month’s theme, “the path of resistance.” You see…

Religious Education and Family Ministry
Easter will be a multigenerational service with children and youth joining everyone in the sanctuary. At the busy hands table we will be transforming our snow pile from last week into a beautiful spring flower garden. Following the service there will be an Easter Egg hunt around the building, please meet Genevieve in the lobby for more instructions.
Eggs are filled with a variety of candy and toys, but any candy can be exchanged with Genevieve for extra prizes. Youth participating in Coming of Age will leave the service during the offertory to hide eggs for our younger children and youth, followed by a regular meeting with Genevieve in the youth room, please expect to stay slightly longer (12:15-12:30) to accommodate the Easter Egg hunt.

Caring Tree News
Marla McFadden has joined as temporary Coordinator of the Caring Tree. Welcome back Marla. We are looking for someone to be a long term Coordinator beginning in June (there are two Coordinators, so you won’t be working alone!). This is a great way to strengthen your ties to the JRUUC community and get to know Reeb friends and members better. We meet once a month and the amount of support requested varies from month to month. Please contact the Caring Tree if you are interested in being a Coordinator or have questions about this opportunity.

Thank you for your contributions!
The sharing portion of our project has come to a close, but we’ll leave it on the wall as inspiration as we explore our April theme, the Path of Resistance. You can see the finished project here.

Staffing Update
We’ve hired an Office Administrator! Her name is Madeline Reyes, and you’ll find an introduction from her in next week’s email. And we’ve had some applicants for the Music Director position, and the Search Team will be conducting interviews over the next couple of weeks! We’ll continue the Music Director search until we’ve hired someone, so please continue to share the Music Director job description with your networks. Applicants are asked to send a cover letter and resume to apply@jruuc.org

What's Happening in Our Community
General Assembly is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists, where we conduct business of the Association, explore the theological underpinnings of our faith, and lean fully into our mission and principles. This is a great year to go, especially for first-timers! There will be exciting work done on the process of revising Article II of our Bylaws, worship is always wonderful, and it’s an amazing experience to be surrounded by thousands of UUs. Early bird registration ends on February 28, and there are many opportunities for financial support. Follow these links for general information, volunteer opportunities, other financial support, registration, and housing reservations.
The General Assembly and Conference Services Team leads the initiative to ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are woven throughout, from planning to fruition. You’re invited to watch this video about historical trauma and transformative healing, which is informing our work.
