"Summer Solstice Service"
with Rev. Karen and Deb Myrbo
The Sun is at its peak this week, and with it, the first day of summer. The Summer Solstice is upon us! This morning, we’ll share in some reflections and rituals to welcome the longest day.

Our June theme: The Path of Delight | |
Our June theme invites us to notice and remember things that bring delight. In this space, you’ll find a new invitation into reflection on our monthly theme every week.
Check-in question: Who taught you about cultivating delight?
And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.
-- Khalil Gibran

Minister's Musings
This month’s theme, the path of delight, invites us to put our attention on beauty and joy and wholeness, even when the pain within and around us threatens to overwhelm... What would it feel like to have access to that beautiful and necessary feeling of opening our hearts and spirits to delight, at any time?

Rev. Karen will be away at Ministry Days and General Assembly next week, from Sunday, June 18 after the service until Tuesday, June 27. She will be checking her email once a day during this time, and her response time will be longer than usual. Please call or text her if you have a pastoral emergency.
Following GA, Karen will be away from Reeb for vacation and study leave, from July 3 until Wednesday, August 9. Office hours will be suspended through the summer.

Religious Education and Family Ministry
This week will be a multigenerational service to celebrate the Summer Solstice! Coming of Age will not meet formally this week, instead Genevieve will be reaching out to all CoA youths and their mentors to begin working on our credo statements. A reminder that we will move RE classes to FOURTH Sunday (June 25th) this month to allow children and youth to attend the Summer Solstice service on June 18th. Genevieve will be out of town the next two Sundays but is still available via email.

Music Ministry
One of my favorite summer solstice traditions is participating in Make Music Day. This citywide day of music is celebrated annually on June 21st in Madison and in 1000 cities across the globe! You can view the schedule and locations for this year’s Make Music Madison celebration here.
Even though Sacred Breath Choir is on summer break, all are invited to share in the delight of summer music making at Reeb. If you’d like to volunteer your musical talents for any services this summer, please reach out to Jennifer!
Please send an email to music@jruuc.org with any questions or thoughts you have about music ministry at JRUUC.
This Sunday’s shared music:
Hymn #1067 “Mother Earth, Beloved Garden”
Hymn #73 “Chant for the Seasons”
Hymn #65 “The Sweet June Days”

Congregational Listening Session with the Covid-19 Task Force
Sunday, June 18
Although the emergency orders ended this month, we know Covid isn’t over, and we want to continue to be guided by the mission statement of this congregation, the principles of Unitarian Universalism, and science. We’re aware that there is a wide range of comfort levels with the congregational and individual expectations in our current plan, and we want our precautions to create an inclusive environment for people of all comfort levels. We’ll have a brief coffee hour directly after worship, and then reconvene in person and virtually to talk about the following questions:
- Regardless of any changes we make, we’re committed to continuing multiplatform worship and options for other events, and to supporting masking for any people who want it. We will continue to provide masks, and we’ll nurture a culture in which masking is a comfortable choice. That said, what activities would you like to see masking be required (indoors)?
- The current plan requires that for worship leaders (including AV tech), greeters, choir members, people working with children/youth, and staff are vaccinated. Do you believe these vaccination requirements are still relevant?
- Do you believe it’s time to end the process of signing in for events so we can contact folx individually if a case of Covid is reported?
- If you attend worship virtually on a regular basis, why do you continue to choose virtual participation?
- What else do you want us to know?
If you have feedback you'd like to share but can't attend the meeting, please sent it in an email to Jocie Luglio, or give her a call, by the end of June 26th.

Can you spend one hour a week speaking English with an
English-language learner?
The JRUUC Immigrant and Refugee Rights Team is seeking 7 volunteers who could spend just one hour a week (on the same day each week--you pick which day) speaking English with a young asylum seeker who needs more practice speaking English and developing his listening comprehension skills in English. Ideally we need one volunteer for each day of the week who could meet weekly with the young man. Please contact Leila Pine if you can help this asylum seeker prepare for a job that requires basic English skills.

General Assembly is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists, where we conduct business of the Association, explore the theological underpinnings of our faith, and lean fully into our mission and principles. This is a great year to go, especially for first-timers! There will be exciting work done on the process of revising Article II of our Bylaws, worship is always wonderful, and it’s an amazing experience to be surrounded by thousands of UUs. Early bird registration ends on February 28, and there are many opportunities for financial support. Follow these links for general information, volunteer opportunities, other financial support, registration, and housing reservations.
The General Assembly and Conference Services Team leads the initiative to ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are woven throughout, from planning to fruition. You’re invited to watch this video about historical trauma and transformative healing, which is informing our work.

Voting for UUA President opens June 1. This is the final stage of a process that began in the spring of 2022. The Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt has been affirmed as the sole candidate for UUA President after no additional candidates emerged from the nomination by petition period. For more information on the election process, and to view recordings of Presidential Candidate Forums, click here. Delegates will also cast votes at General Assembly on the proposal for a revised Article II, which reflects feedback from thousands of Unitarian Universalists.
