Chalise Robbins Takes Top Honor in Regional Rotary Youth Music Contest

Six talented local youth musicians competed for top honors in the local Rotary Music Contest March 19th, with standout pianist Chalise Robbins winning at the local level and again at the Area 1 regionals. Robbins will now represent Area 1 at the District Convention in Reno, May 18th.

Chalise had some talented competition; Troy Ferreira, Juliette Singletary, Crandall Singletary, Autumn Robbins, Chalise Robbins and Tyler VanMeter all turned in terrific performances at the competition.

The top three contestants, according to the panel of judges, were Chalise, Autumn and Troy.

Rotary then held its Area 1 contest in which Robbins, as our local winner, and Elbereth Enloe from Chester competed. Again, Robbins took the top spot and will now represent Area 1 at the district convention in Reno.

Each of Rotary’s winners earned a cash prize and Robbins will be competing for a $1,000 prize at the Reno convention.

On Saturday the rodeo starts at 4:00, followed by the album release party at 7:30.

Saturday’s tickets are $20, and get you into both the rodeo and concert.

Due to concerns about Saturday’s weather the album release party has moved inside the Industrial Building at the fairgrounds.

Organizers have also announced the addition of local band “The Villbillys” to the program.

Both Friday and Saturday’s rodeo, will feature bareback riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, goat tying, team roping, barrel racing, bull riding and a clown act.

All proceeds go to scholarships for Lassen College students.

HLH was founded in 2003, established to improve the quality of life for the terminally ill in Lassen County by providing guidance and support to dying persons and their families.

The non-profit corporation is run entirely by volunteers, and all services are free of charge.

The organization’s trained volunteers become part of a team working with dying persons, their families, primary caregivers, physicians, home health nurses, and clergy.

As a volunteer hospice, they do not receive federal or state funds.

Doctors or other health care providers can contact Honey Lake Hospice when a patient is diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Families or friends of terminal patients can contact Honey Lake Hospice at

They provide services to dying patients in home, hospitals and nursing homes.

The tournament is limited to 144 players so make your reservations soon. To reserve a spot, fees must be received by May 1st.

Prizes will be awarded for the longest drive and closest to the pin.

This golf tournament has helped to raise a substantial amount of funds over the years, providing safe and sober events for graduating seniors.

Susanville Park Plans Approved

April 12, 1947

City officials and members of Susanville’s public park committee this week approved the final blueprint plans for what probably will be known as Susanville Memorial Park.

Glenn Hall, city planning engineer from Sacramento, presented two plans to the group. One of these plans was accepted as fitting the area for the city’s new park after some revisions had been made and agreed upon. Mr. Hall promised to have the final plans completed and back to Susanville within three weeks.

When these plans are received, the committee will immediately start primary action upon the park site. Survey of the plans indicate the park will include tennis courts, children’s playground and wading pool, an area for teenage recreation, baseball park, handball courts, horseshoe courts, camp-fire circle, and a community or scout building as soon as feasible.
