The Lassen County Fairgrounds were packed with kids and their families last Saturday for what may be Susanville’s first-ever indoor Community Easter Egg Hunt. Originally planned to be held outside, the pouring rain and howling wind forced volunteers to quickly move everything inside so that the happy youngsters were still able to grab more than 12,000 candy-stuffed plastic Easter Eggs without having to brave the elements. |

Everything was moved into the Industrial Building, or under the grandstands, and it turned out great! Buckets were overflowing with candy and an enjoyable time was had by all despite the inclement weather.
It’s a big event which requires a lot of volunteer help. From the volunteers who showed up last week to stuff eggs with candy, to all the nice folks who showed up to help the Easter Bunny hide eggs Saturday morning, it was certainly a group effort by a lot of people.
Special mention, of course, should be made of Susanville’s Easter Bunny, Tina Jacobs. Also, thanks to Lassen County Fair Manager Kaitlyn Downing and her Junior Fair Board, without whom the event wouldn’t be possible.

CASA Program Holding Gala Night
Fundraiser and Silent Auction

Lassen Family Service’s Court Appointed Special Advocates program will be hosting an evening of ‘country chic fun’ at their Gala Night fundraiser and silent auction on May 28th, benefiting the children of Lassen County in the CASA program.
Dinner for the Gala Night event is Top Sirloin from the 5 Dot Ranch, prepared by rockstar BBQ expert Joe Camino.
The cost of the dinner is $40 per plate and tickets are available at Margie’s Book Nook, Zaengles Floor and Home and Lassen Family Services. You must be twenty-one or older to purchase tickets.

Doors open at 5:30 at Sentimental Journey, 465-320 Church Street in Janesville, and dinner will be served at 7:00.
The bar will be sponsored and served by Soroptimist International of Susanville.

Child and Family Resources Offering Training for Young Babysitters in May |
Lassen Child and Family Resources will be offering a free two-day training for sixth graders and older who are interested in caring for children.
The Babysitting Class will be held on Friday, May 20th, from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. and on May 21st from 9:00a.m. until 2:30p.m.
Attendance both days is required to receive a certificate.

Information to be presented includes activities for children, nutritional snacks and CPR and First Aid Training.
There is limited space so please register early. Dinner Friday and lunch Saturday will be provided to attendees.

Lassen Crime Stoppers Update for April 22nd, 2022
Lassen Crime Stoppers, a local organization which pays up to $1,000 for tips and information leading to the arrest of someone who commits a crime, has released this week’s list of names and photos of subjects ‘wanted’ by local law enforcement agencies.
To report information about a crime you can anonymously call a simple telephone number, (530) 502-TIPS, and if that information pays off for local law enforcement you will be paid up to $1,000 in cash.
Help clean up Lassen County by anonymously working with the Susanville Police Department, the Lassen County Probation Department and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office through Crime Stoppers.

Susanville Votes for Annexation
Big Territory Added to City
April 22, 1947
By a margin of more than two to one, residents of five Susanville additions voted themselves into the city in a special election here Tuesday.
The move increased Susanville’s population from slightly more than 1,500 to an estimated 7,500 and swelled the city’s area by more than 200 percent.
Of the 626 ballots cast, 435 were in favor of the unification and 191 were opposed. Only residents of the five affected additions were allowed to vote. The ballot was less than 50 percent of the registration list of 1,400.
Additions now within the city limits as a result of the election are East Milwood, Arnold, Richmond and Fruit Growers hill.
Main Street, the principal thoroughfare, now runs for more than a mile in the city limits. It previously ran only a few blocks within the official boundaries of the town.
The lumber mill section, which includes its own residences, was not included in the annexation move.
Among other things, the unification is expected to make the administration of schools here easier, with all elementary schools now within the city limits. Two of the largest previously were beyond the boundaries of the town.
The special election was called by the city council after petitions requesting it had been filed with the city clerk and received no protest.
