Mike Jabbs Earns Award at Prestigious C10 Nationals in Vegas
The bright lights of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway “Strip” grew a little brighter for Susanville’s Mike Jabbs, co-owner of Superior Auto Body, as he and his family traveled to Vegas for the prestigious C10 Nationals, where their stunning 1973 Chevy Cheyenne Super 10 secured the title of Runner-Up for “Truck of the Year 73 - 87.”
The event, held April 10th and 11th, is a massive pilgrimage for Chevy and GMC enthusiasts. This year’s meet brought together thousands of spectators and drivers from across the country for an all-Chevy showcase that pushed high-performance engineering to the limit.
The C10 Nationals is more than just a typical car show; it is an immersive experience for truck lovers. Over the two-day event, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway was packed with Auto Cross and Drag Racing, Dyno Competitions, Burnout Competitions and a Show and Shine where the meticulous detail of Jabbs’ Cheyenne Super 10 stood out against the toughest competition in the nation.
The weekend culminated in a spectacular Track Cruise, where hundreds of trucks took a victory lap around the iconic Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Competing in the 1973–1987 class—one of the most popular eras for truck restoration—is no small feat. Out of a massive field of entries, the Jabbs family’s 1973 Chevy Cheyenne Super 10 was singled out for its exceptional quality and craftsmanship.

Mount Lassen Dance Academy Brings ‘A Little Bit of Broadway’ to Susanville May 15th and 16th
The bright lights of New York City are coming to the Honey Lake Valley as the Mount Lassen Dance Academy prepares to take the stage for its highly anticipated spring production, “A Little Bit of Broadway.” The showcase, which features two performances – one on Friday, May 15th and another on Saturday, May 16th – will be held at the Susanville Veterans Memorial Hall located at 1205 Main Street. Both shows are scheduled to begin at 6:00p.m.

A Senior Send-off with Style
This year’s production holds special significance for the academy’s graduating class. According to MLDA co-owner Jillaine Laughlin, the seniors played a major role in shaping the weekend’s program by selecting the specific stories they wanted to tell for their final spring showcase.
Laughlin shared that the performance will feature condensed versions of beloved hits like Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, In the Heights, Beauty and the Beast, Anastasia, and Singing In the Rain. This unique approach creates a vibrant blend of mysterious stories, timeless Broadway classics, and contemporary favorites.
Audiences can also look forward to high-energy numbers set to the music of Mamma Mia, Newsies and the modern phenomenon Wicked.
Hard Work and New Styles
The performance highlights the impressive versatility of the local dancers through a wide array of disciplines. The audience will see the results of months of dedicated practice across ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop.
This year is particularly exciting as the academy debuts its newest studio addition, musical theater, which perfectly complements the Broadway theme of the evening. Laughlin noted that the students have been working incredibly hard and are eager to finally share their passion and talent with the community.

Tickets for both nights are available now, and community members are encouraged to purchase early to secure their spots. Premium seats are available for between $20 and $30, while general seating is offered at $15.
Young children who will be sitting in a lap do not require a separate ticket.

Community Church Prepares for
Busy Summer Lunch Program
The Community Church of Susanville will be offering a free summer lunch program for local kids during the months of June, July and August. Lunches are available Monday and Wednesdays with exceptions for holidays and days during the week of the Lassen County Fair.
Registration for the program is easy – just call Kristin at 1.530.310.3741 or Tim at 1.530.310.6188. Forms are also available at the church’s office at 65 S. Lassen Street.

Arts Council to Host Songwriting Workshop with Award-Winning Artist Richard Elloyan
The Lassen County Arts Council invites the community to a unique creative experience this Saturday, May 2nd, when award-winning songwriter Richard Elloyan will lead a special hands-on workshop designed to help participants master the art of storytelling through song.
The workshop, titled “Songwriting with Richard Elloyan,” will take place from 1:00 to 3:00p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from a seasoned performer known for his unique wit and imagination. Whether you are an aspiring musician or a seasoned writer, the class is designed to spark creativity and connection.

Richard Elloyan brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the West to his teaching. Growing up in the historic mining town of Virginia City, Elloyan uses his love for the region’s rich history and magnificent vistas as a constant source of inspiration.
His work has been recognized across the western music circuit, with performances at major festivals and notable cowboy poetry gatherings. Elloyan’s songwriting prowess is well-regarded in the industry; his songs have been recorded by acclaimed artists including Lacy J. Dalton, Dave Stamey, Bill Barwick, Devon Dawson, Belinda Gail and Curley Musgrave.
In addition to his performance career, Elloyan recently spent two years completing his master’s degree in English and Creative Writing, bringing a polished academic perspective to the craft of lyrical storytelling.
Supplies and light snacks will be provided for all attendees.

Edgar Loudermilk Brings “Songs & Stories” to the Susanville Performing Arts Center
Get ready for an unforgettable night of hard-driving bluegrass and heartfelt storytelling as the Susanville Bluegrass Music Alliance and the Susanville Bluegrass Festival and Music Camp host Edgar Loudermilk for a special performance at the Susanville Performing Arts Center at the Sierra Theatre. Known for his powerful baritone voice, award-winning songwriting and world-class bass playing, Loudermilk blends traditional bluegrass roots with songs that hit straight from the heart.
This special show, titled “Songs & Stories,” promises much more than a standard concert. It is an intimate, personal evening where Loudermilk shares the “rest of the story” behind his life as a touring musician and the inspiration for his portfolio of over 100 songs.

As a nominee for the SPBGMA “Songwriter of the Year” with over 20 years in the industry, Loudermilk brings the kind of authentic connection and road-tested wisdom that only a seasoned performer can deliver.
Accompanying him on stage is the talented Tucker McCandless, a musician whose impressive resume includes performing with Dolly Parton and serving as the Musical Director for Pigeon Forge’s Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Theatre. The evening will also feature a special guest performance by Olivia Vega.
The performance takes place on Wednesday, May 13th, and doors open at 5:30p.m., with the music kicking off at 6:00p.m.

Westwood Little League Opening Day Ceremonies Happen This Saturday
Westwood Little League’s 2026 season kickoff will take place this Saturday, May 2nd, with a full schedule of festivities designed to bring the community together for a day of local sports.
The morning begins with a flurry of activity as teams gather at 8:00a.m. for float decorating. This creative preparation leads directly into the annual Opening Day Parade at 9:00a.m.

The procession will wind through Westwood and finish at the Little League Field, setting the stage for the formal Opening Ceremonies and a special tribute to the local sponsors whose contributions sustain the league.
Once the ceremonies conclude, the action shifts to the dirt and grass. The youngest players will lead the way with T-Ball and Farm games starting immediately after the presentation, held at the baseball and softball fields respectively.
As the morning progresses, the competition heats up with the Minor League divisions. Both the Minor Boys and Minor Girls will take the field at 11:00a.m., hosting visitors from Greenville and Quincy. The day’s athletic lineup concludes in the afternoon when the Junior Boys square off against Quincy Grey at 2:00p.m.
Whether you are there to cheer on a specific player or just to enjoy the atmosphere, the league encourages everyone to come out and support the youth.
The concession stand will be fully stocked and open for business throughout the event, and organizers emphasize that the celebration will move forward rain or shine.

Pratt Museum Now Open for 1977 Season

THE WILLIAM PRATT MEMORIAL MUSEUM reopened for the summer on Monday, April 18th. Its primary function is to collect, document and preserve those materials of historical significance in Lassen County and to communicate this information to an interested public.
Newly hired curator, Thomas Eilers, of Susanville, is responsible for reorganization of exhibits and construction of new displays.
The museum is presently organized into four major sections: The Pioneer Kitchen, showing various kitchen implements and cooking utensils; Early Farming, with examples of pioneer farming equipment and tools used in Lassen County; Lassen County Pre-History, displaying the basic tools and crafts of native Indian tribes; and the Pioneer Parlor, an early women’s corner with examples of fashion and handiwork.
Other displays include samples from an early medicine chest, old china, trail memorabilia, a mineral collection, and antique typewriters and phonographs.
Local participation is encouraged; the museum needs help to identify unknown objects and old photographs. Hours are from 10-4 daily and the public is urged to visit. (Advocate photo).
